Hello to my friends who love life and always keep smiling despite all kinds of negativity. In my previous article, I gave brief information about METAVERSE. My research on METAVERSE continues. After watching the movie “Ready Play One”, I must admit that it is a subject that intrigued me a lot. Therefore, I will only publish articles on METAVERSE to share the knowledge I have gained for a while.

Let's start …

In this article, I will explain to you in detail what exactly the concept of METAVERSE is…

With the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been significant changes in our lives. More and more people are starting to explore virtual worlds, both for work and for fun. METAVERSE and its products began to gain popularity.

What is METAVERSE … ?

METAVERSE; It is a collective virtual shared space created by the convergence of almost augmented physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality and the internet.

It is a term used to describe virtual space in digital environments such as online games, social media and virtual reality. It is a network of always-on virtual environments where many people can interact with each other and with digital objects while running their own virtual representations or avatars.

The concept is formed from the combination of the Greek words meta meaning "after" and the English word universe meaning "universe". In this case, the concept indicates going beyond the physical universe.

We can generally classify METAVERSE in two groups…

First group; They are projects that focus on creating a blockchain technology-based metadata warehouse using Non-Fungible Token ( NFT ) and cryptocurrencies. Like Decentraland ( MANA ) and The Sandbox ( SAND ), they are platforms that allow people to purchase virtual parcels of land and create their own worlds.

Second group; They are platforms that create virtual worlds where people can come together for work and/or fun. Social media environments such as Facebook, Google and Microsoft are creating teams to work on METAVERSE and investing in VR companies. Gaming platforms such as Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft create platforms where users can compete in games, collaborate and create their own games.

On the first group Blockchain METAVERSE platforms, they allow people to open accounts by linking their wallets for free to join. It is required to use cryptocurrencies to buy and/or trade virtual digital assets.

On platforms like Decentraland, users can trade Non-Fungible Token ( NFT ) artworks, used as entrance fees to a virtual exhibition or concert.

Many METAVERSE-based platforms are in a great race to develop Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology that will allow users to fully interact in the virtual world.

According to data from PwC, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies predict an economy of 1.5 trillion dollars by 2030.

What is Virtual Reality ( VR ) … ?

The definition of virtual reality comes, naturally, from both "virtual" and "reality" definitions. The definition of "virtual" is close and reality is what we experience as humans. So the term "virtual reality" basically means "near reality".

Answering “what is virtual reality” in technical terms is simple. Virtual reality is the term used to describe a three-dimensional, computer-generated environment that can be explored and interacted with by a person. This person becomes part of or immersed in this virtual world and can manipulate objects or perform a series of actions while there.

We know the world through our senses and perceptual systems. We learned that we have "five senses": However, these are only our most prominent sense organs. The truth is, humans have a lot more senses than that, like a sense of balance. These other sensory inputs, as well as the special processing of sensory information by our brain, allow us to have a rich flow of information from the environment to our minds.

virtual reality; It aims to present our five senses, taste, touch, smell, sight and hear in a computer-generated virtual environment.

Why does virtual reality exist… ?

It was created for use in immersive movies, video games, and where it's actually too dangerous, expensive or impractical. From trainee fighter pilots to medical practitioners to trainee surgeons, virtual reality allows us to take virtual risks to gain real-world experience. As the cost of virtual reality drops and becomes more common, you can expect more serious uses such as education or productivity applications to come to the fore. Virtual reality and its cousin augmented reality can dramatically change the way we interface with our digital technologies.

Virtual reality is the creation of a virtual environment presented to our senses, so that we experience it as if we were actually there. It uses a range of technologies to achieve this goal and is a technically complex feat that must take into account our perception and cognition. It has both recreational and serious uses. Technology is getting cheaper and more common. We can expect to see much more innovative uses for technology in the future, and perhaps a fundamental way we communicate and work, thanks to the possibilities of virtual reality.
