Disagreements and compromise, a musical dilemma

Sometimes I wonder if anyone gets bored with me mentioning my guy in posts mostly all the time and then I remember this space is mine so it doesn't matter what people think.

I'm proud of that far from perfect man and he sometimes frustrates and infuriates me so much but he is a good one. He cares for me and himself, values our relationship and the life we make together, has good values and manners, is tender and kind yet is what a real man needs to be, is supportive, intelligent, and has a humorous nature that is difficult not to love even if it borders on inappropriate at times. There's so much about him that I love and I think about him all the time making it difficult not to mention him in my posts.

We had a disagreement this weekend, not an argument, and it revolved around music. I came home and he had some music playing very loudly, something he loves and I hate.

As soon as I heard it I felt that flush of distaste as always. Eventually I asked him to turn it off citing the fact it was horrendous and was giving me a headache as the reason and he did knowing he'd probably not survive the rest of the afternoon if he didn't.

Afterwards we chatted about it, our different and similar musical interests, and of acknowledged that we are permitted our own likes and dislikes.

It doesn't speak to our incompatibility, much the opposite actually; we're different people and have different interests which we feel is very healthy. What truly matters is that we respect and support each other. It was then that I felt inclined to apologize for asking him to turn that terrible music off because I felt I shouldn't have; predictably, he said there was no need, that he'd had it on for a while and was ok with turning it off. Compromise is something we do very well fortunately and I'm so glad of it.

Here's another Saturday Selections installment, one of a series of posts in which I share some music I've been listening to. I know you won't like everything I select and that's ok, it's my selection after all.

  • Glitterball -

  • Secrets from a girl -

  • Breathe -

If you like music and want to share some with the rest of us you're free to do so and maybe you'll even help someone find some music they haven't already discovered. If you wish to use the #saturdayselections tag that's ok too, it's a free space to do as you wish.
