Hello friend artisans and community @Hivediy, it is a pleasure to greet you, wishing you have an excellent and blessed weekend, today is July 5th, a national holiday, a very important date for the country, which commemorates independence from the Spanish yoke, Venezuela was part of the countries colonized by Spain, after the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the American continent, after a long process of emancipation, the country managed to consolidate itself as an independent nation.
This time I'm sharing the making of a sewing project inspired by the sea. It's a placemat that will be very useful for placing the drinks that I usually put on the table. When I'm working, to take advantage of a leftover piece of nautical fabric, I made this beautiful placemat. In the center, it has waterproof fabric to prevent liquids and moisture from passing through to the table. It's very easy to make. I invite you to join me in the making process.
Hola amigo artesanos y comunidad @Hivediy, es un placer de saludarles, deseando que tengan un excelente y bendecido fin de semana, hoy es 5 de Julio feriado nacional, una fecha muy importante para el país, en la cual se conmmora la independencia del yugo español, Venezuela formó parte de los países colonizados por España, tras la llegada de Cristóbal Colón al continente americano, luego de un largo proceso de emancipación, el país logra consolidarse como una nación independiente.
En esta ocasión comparto la elaboración de un proyecto de costura inspirado en el mar, se trata de un individual que será muy útil para colocar las bebidas que acostumbro a poner en la mesa, cuando estoy trabajando, para aprovechar un retazo sobró de la tela marinera realicé este hermoso individual, en el centro lleva tela impermeable para evitar que los líquidos y humedad pasen a la mesa, es muy sencillo de hacer les invito me acompañen en el proceso de elaboración.

The first step in making the placemat was to cut the pieces: three rectangles, one in the main printed fabric (microfiber), another in waterproof fabric, and the last in lining fabric (gabardine). After cutting the pieces, I rounded the corners. I also ironed the taffeta strips and folded them in half. Once these strips were ironed, I joined them right sides together so the seams faced inward. Once the seams were finished, I ironed them again and obtained a 4.5-meter-long ribbon that will be used to make the ruffle on the placemat.

El primer paso para la elaboración del individual fue cortar las piezas; tres rectángulos, uno en la tela principal estampada (microfibra), otro en tela impermeable y el último en tela de forro (gabardina) luego de cortar las piezas redondeé las esquinas, también planché las tiras de tafeta y las doblé a la mitad, planchadas estas tiras las uní enfrentando por los derechos de tal forma que las costuras queden hacia adentro, terminada la costura planché nuevamente y obtuve una cinta de 4.5 metros de largo la cual será usada para hacer el volado en el individual.
The next step was to glue the ruffles onto the main fabric. To do this, I folded the ribbon into squares approximately three (3) centimeters wide. I started at the bottom, leaving a margin of four (4) centimeters. Then, I covered the top, the next side, and the bottom where I started without a ruffle. This only covers three parts of the rectangle to give the project a different style.
El siguiente paso fue pegar los ruffles en la tela principal, para ello doblé la cinta haciendo tablones de aproximadamente tres (3) centímetros de ancho, inicié en la parte inferior dejando un margen de cuatro (4) centímetros, luego cubrí la parte superior el siguiente lateral y la parte inferior donde inicié queda sin volado, este solo cubre cubre tres partes del rectángulo para darle un estilo diferente al proyecto.
Once the ruffles were glued, I placed the main fabric and the lining right sides together and placed the waterproof fabric in the center. I sewed all the way around with a straight stitch, leaving an opening at the bottom.
Pegados los volados enfrenté por el derecho la tela principal con el forro y coloqué la tela impermeable en el centro cosí por todo el contorno con puntada recta dejando una abertura en la parte inferior.
Then, using scissors, I removed the excess fabric and checked that the seams were in place.
Luego con ayuda de la tijera, retiré el exceso de tela y verifique que las costuras estuviesen en su lugar.
To finish, I turned the piece over, pinned the opening, and sewed with a straight stitch. These simple steps create a beautiful, nautical-inspired placemat that can be used to place glasses or food containers and protect the table from spills and stains.
Para finalizar, volteé la pieza, fijé con alfileres la abertura y cosí con puntada recta, con estos sencillos pasos está terminado un hermoso individual de inspiración marina, que se puede usar para colocar los vasos o envases con alimentos y proteger la mesa de posibles derrames y manchas.
These types of projects are useful when it comes to protecting the table and tablecloths, because food scraps and drops of water or juice fall on them, placing a waterproof fabric in the center allows its protection capacity to be greater, this will be very useful on my work table and will prevent the tablecloth from getting stained, I hope the tutorial is useful and you are encouraged to do it; placing ruffles is optional according to each person's taste, you can place ruffles on the top, the sides around the entire contour, or simply leave it without ruffles, the important thing in this case is the functionality of the project to protect the table, it also serves to decorate to match the tablecloth.
Este tipo de proyectos son útiles cuando de proteger la mesa y manteles se trata, pues en ellos caen los restos de comida y gotas de agua o jugo, el colocarle una tela impermeable en el centro permite que su capacidad de protección sea mayor, este me será muy útil en mi mesa de trabajo y evitará que se manche el mantel, espero que el tutorial les sea de utilidad y se animen a realizarlo; colocarle volados es opcional de acuerdo al gusto de cada persona, se le puede colocar ruffles en la parte de arriba, los laterales por todo el contorno, o sencillamente dejarlo sin volado, lo importante en este caso es la funcionalidad que tiene el proyecto para proteger la mesa, además también sirve para decorar a juego con el mantel.
