Come and be amazed by the Cruz de Piedra Reservoir in San Luis, Argentina

My dear friends of Pinmapple, today I bring you one of the most beautiful landscapes I have seen in this last year, and it is the Cruz de Piedra Reservoir in San Luis, Argentina.

While Mendoza offers scenic wonders especially in the mountain area, provinces like San Luis add to this the water, something that in my city is naturally scarce.

San Luis is a little more humid than Mendoza, and this is evident in its canals and reservoirs, which maintain a more homogeneous water level throughout the year (in Mendoza the level drops mainly due to evaporation and the lack of a natural feed to the reservoir).

A few years ago I visited the Potrero de los Funes dam, so when my friend Gaby asked me if I preferred to visit that one or the Cruz de Piedra reservoir, I did not hesitate to choose the latter, as it was something completely new to me.

My friend assured me that I would love it because its environment was really natural, and she was right.

Ven a sorprenderte con el Embalse Cruz de Piedra en San Luis, Argentina

Mis queridos amigos de Pinmapple, hoy les traigo uno de los paisajes más hermosos que he visto en este último año, y se trata del Embalse Cruz de Piedra en San Luis, Argentina.

Mientras Mendoza ofrece maravillas paisajísticas en especial en la zona de montaña, provincias como San Luis le agregan a esto el agua, algo que en mi ciudad escasea de manera natural.

San Luis es un poco más húmedo que Mendoza, y eso se evidencia en sus canales y en sus embalses, que mantienen un nivel de agua más homogéneo a lo largo del año (en Mendoza el nivel baja principalmente por evaporación y por inexistencia de un alimento natural al embalse).

Hace unos años visité el dique de Potrero de los Funes, por lo que cuando mi amiga Gaby me preguntó si prefería visitar aquel o el Embalse Cruz de Piedra, no dudé en elegir el segundo, pues era algo completamente nuevo para mí.

Mi amiga aseguró que me encantaría porque su entorno era realmente natural, y estaba en lo cierto.

El Mirador de los Pescadores

The reservoir appears as you drive by almost by surprise, and as you follow the road, you can see the large sign that tells us: Mirador de los pescadores, inviting the visitors to park and, worth the redundancy, observe what we should look at.

Of course, the scenery is beautiful. From the top you can see in a panoramic way the beautiful body of water, calm and unpolluted, located in a kind of valley, being embraced by the soft mountain ranges.

An interesting set of zigzagging stairs invites you to descend, where you start to approach very gently to the water, which is perfectly crystal clear.

There is a kind of beach where you can sit on the ground or with some chairs to enjoy some mates while contemplating nature in an absolute calm, which seems to abstract you for a moment from your reality.

El Mirador de los Pescadores

El embalse aparece mientras uno va manejando casi por sorpresa, y al seguir la ruta, puede ver el gran cartel que nos dice: Mirador de los pescadores, invitando a los visitantes a estacionar y, valga la redundancia, observar qué el lo que debemos mirar.

Claro, el paisaje es hermoso. Desde la parte de arriba se puede ver de manera panorámica el hermoso cuerpo de agua, calmo e impoluto, ubicado en una especie de valle, siendo abrazado por las suaves sierras.

Un juego interesantes de escaleras en zigzag te invita a bajar, en donde empiezas a acércate muy suavemente al agua, que es perfectamente cristalina.

Allí hay una especie de playa en donde uno puede sentarse en el suelo o con unas sillas a disfrutar de unos mates mientras contempla la naturaleza en una calma absoluta, que pareciera abstraerte por un momento de tu realidad.

Sculpture of the Fishermen

On one side there are three fishermen made of metal. They rise as if towards the sky, with which they contrast very clearly. The sculptures are golden, and as the sky was turquoise, they stood out very brightly as you can see in the photos.

The fishermen are two men and a woman who are in a cement structure that can be climbed and from where you can continue to observe the landscape.

This sector is quite amusing, because suddenly these long and tall metal beings rise to the side, and one as a human being remains small, perhaps halfway up the leg of these structures. I imagine that children can have a lot of fun playing around here.

Escultura de los Pescadores

A un costado hay tres pescadores elaborados en metal. Se elevan como hacia el cielo, con el que contrastan muy claramente. Las esculturas son doradas, y como el cielo estaba turquesa, resaltaban de manera muy brillante como pueden apreciar en las fotos.

Los pescadores son dos hombres y una mujer que se encuentran en una estructura de cemento a la que se puede subir y desde donde se puede continuar observando el paisaje.

Este sector es bastante divertido, porque de pronto se elevan a un costado estos seres de metal largos y altos, y uno como ser humanos queda pequeño, quizás a mitad de pierna de estas estructuras. Imagino que los niños pueden divertirse mucho jugando por aquí.

Living nature

One thing I loved about the Cruz de Piedra Reservoir was the birds. If you've been reading me for a while, you know that I love birds, especially seagulls. Although I didn't see any gulls, there were different species flying and roosting, and there were also a lot of ducks on the side of the dam.

We tried to photograph them but as soon as they heard us, they all went together towards the center of the water. I loved this because it was a clear sign that they are not used to people, as many ducks, when exposed to constant noise, lose their fear and stay where they are.

For this reason, this was another indicator of the purity that this place has, even though there is some human intervention to install the infrastructure that welcomes the dam.

Naturaleza viva

Algo que me encantó del Embalse Cruz de Piedra, fueron las aves. Si me estás leyendo desde hace un tiempo, sabes que amo las aves, en especial las gaviotas. Aunque no vi gaviotas, sí habían diferentes especies volando y reposando, y también había una gran cantidad de patos a un costado del dique.

Intentamos fotografiarlos pero en cuanto nos escucharon, se fueron todos juntos hacia el centro del agua. Esto me encantó porque fue la clara señal de que no están acostumbrados a las personas, pues muchos patos al estar expuestos al ruido constante, pierden el miedo y se quedan donde están.

Por este motivo, este fue otro indicador de la pureza que tiene este lugar, a pesar de que haya cierta intervención humana para instalar la infraestructura que da la bienvenida al dique.

My friend told me that this is the place where locals gather every weekend, starting at 5 pm. Although they do not have parks like the one I have previously shown you in Mendoza, they have these large natural spaces where you can get away from the city and take a break from your routine.

Mi amiga me comentó que en este lugar se reúnen los locales todos los fines de semana, a partir de las 5 de la tarde. Aunque no cuentan con parques como el que previamente les he mostrado de Mendoza, tienen estos amplios espacios naturales en donde pueden alejarse de la ciudad y hacer una pausa a su rutina.
