I imagine that even five years ago if you had tried to explain to someone the idea of play 2 earn, they likely would have been quite skeptical. If you went on to mention that people would be making hundreds if not thousands of dollars a day doing it, they probably would have laughed in your face.

We all realize both of those ideas are a reality now and play 2 earn is set to be one of the hottest concepts of this decade.

At the beginning of the week I wrote this post about some of the play 2 earn games that launched over the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. Today, I want to dig a little deeper into one of them that I am participating in.

My interest in Million On Mars: Land Rush all started because of a NFT group on Telegram that I am a member of. It is a closed group for an Alien Worlds alliance that formed up before the game was even launched. We are called The Cabal and the members come from all walks of life. One of our members is actually the largest land owner in all of Alien Worlds. That is a pretty impressive line for your resume right there.

Despite us "bonding" over Alien Worlds, we talk about all manner of NFT projects and often degen into many of them sight unseen. Truthfully, I invest a fraction of what these folks do, but they put up with me nonetheless.

One day, one of the members posted a link to this drop. It was for the Million on Mars Land Rush Founders Token. The tokens aren't transferable, and at $500 it wasn't cheap, but as soon as I saw what you got for holding a founders token, I decided to buy two of them.

Founders Tokens give you:

  • Founders Access Badge
  • Founders Token
  • Founders Land Pack
  • Original Soundtrack
  • 5 Access Badges for friends

The Founders Access Badge pretty much just gave you early access to the game. This allowed Founders to start opening packs and setting up shop before the main sale happened for the masses. We all know that getting in early can mean the difference between excelling at a game or being left behind.

The Founders Token serves a couple of purposes and this is what got me really excited. Holding the Founders Token entitles you to 1 pack airdrop per week for a total of 52 weeks. That's 52 packs of NFTs that they value at around $2000. That's assuming the game doesn't moon (or mars in this case). They also indicate that holding the Founders Token could grant other perks in the future.

The Founders Lank Pack gives you 6 pieces of land to start the game. Nothing wrong with owning land in a game am I right?

The soundtrack I was indifferent about, and I really haven't checked it out too much.

Finally, the five access badges I have already given away most of them from my post above and to other friends on Telegram. According to the site, we are supposed to get an additional three invites each month, so I will see what happens next month. There is a possibility I will have more to give away should this post pique your interest.

Oh by the way, if you think my two Founders tokens was excessive, keep in mind there was at least one other member of The Cabal who I know purchased 10 to 20 of them.

The game itself reminds me a lot of Prospectors in many ways. Using your land deeds you set about claiming pieces of land on different areas of the planet Mars. Once you have your plots selected, you then use your blueprint NFTs to start building structures.

  • Solar Panel
  • Water Filter
  • C.A.D.
  • Greenhouse

Are the four main structures right now. Everything requires energy to run, so your first order of business is filling some of your power cells from your solar panels.

Oh, I should mention, even if you aren't a land owner, you can still play the game. There is a scavenge feature that allows you to just go around searching occupied or unoccupied plots for materials. You can find power cells, water, other crafting materials, and even the in-game token called DUSK. You can also do jobs for other people to earn DUSK.

Players get a total of 16 stamina points they can use to complete actions. For example, I used all of my stamina points this morning just to start collecting energy in my solar farms. Lets says I have 20 solar panels. If you do the math, you will realize that leaves four solar panels that are not generating energy.

As I mentioned above, you can then put out work order for people to use their stamina points to do your job for you. I pay you 1 DUSK, and you spend one of your stamina points to spend 20 hours filling my power cell. Make sense?

I am still learning, but the basic flow of things happens like this:

You use the solar cells to gather power. You use the power in your other structures to complete tasks. For example, The water filter gives you fresh water. The C.A.D. creates plantable soil for you. Then you combine the soil and water in the Greenhouse along with power from your solar panels to grow more food. Food and water are then use to restore your stamina points every four hours or so.

It may sound repetitive, but if you think about it, it is very realistic. Of course each of those actions that I mentioned above can be contracted out giving any level of player the potential to earn.

Since the entire game is based on NFTs, there is also an internal market for buying and selling materials that might be needed. I took a quick snapshot of my current inventory so you can see the types of items that are available.

There are plans to list the in-game DUSK token on https://wax.alcor.exchange/ but there is always the possibility it could be listed on bigger exchanges in the future like Binance, Coinbase, or one of the Korean ones. That is what really catapults these tokens into the range of "quit your day job and just game all day".

I'll be honest, it isn't a fast paced game, and there is definitely a lot of clicking involved, but I am not hating the game so far. If you look at it like the simulation it is and not a Diablo button smasher, then you likely won't be disappointed.

Right now the key to the game is building a base and generating DUSK and other resources so that when more gameplay features launch you will find yourself in a really nice position.

I am a big fan of being involved in things at the ground floor. It has worked out really well for me with games like Alien Worlds and Splinterlands. I hope that success carries over to other games like this one and Dark Country that I also was an early adopter of.

Since the launch of the game, prices of land and packs have tumbled a bit on the secondary WAX market. That is to be expected as people try to dump for a gain after launch. If you are interested, the Founders Token (the one that earns you the airdrops were selling for as low as ~$300 last I saw).

That's 52 airdrops over the next year for $300, but of course DYOR.
