The way part timers are being treated in my school, made me question the school authority in mind, like what is their purpose of starting this part time study, is it really because of workers who are not privileged to attend classes in the day or their ulterior motive was to use it to milk people of their hard earned money.
Last semester was nonsense in my school, we wasted 4 weeks at home doing nothing and even after we resumed, the lecturers refused to turn up, student were just burning transport fare, I pity those who came from afar because they are spending huge amount on Tf and right now I am in their shoes cos I just relocated away from the school area.
So we offer 6 courses and all the lecturers mandate paying for their textbook, some even made the textbook a criteria for writing their test, if you do not have it, you will not be allowed to write their test...Most use to give marks for buying the textbook, but some will tell you no marks, but still, you have to buy it.
Our school fees is more than the full-time, but we get less attention, we are not even privileged to use some of the things in the school as they claim it is for the full-time, so what is the essence of paying more than them...
Not to forget the ridiculous project we are being given... A lecturer asked all the student to go and do a banner without explaining how to do it, aside from the fact that he collected 160 banners from us, and 1 banner price is nothing less than 3,000 naira, just imagine how much he made from us and he will also note that he has taught us how to do banner even though 90 percent of the class did the banner outside. It just felt like we were there to pay and pay with no knowledge to pay for it.
There was a day we had a test to write, and the lecturer said everyone must come with their textbook or else he won't allow them to write, and he also added that it was not an open test[meaning he won't allow us to use the textbook to do the test].
I read my textbook and past questions on the day of the test, I was fully prepared and left the house around 4:30 p.m. since the test was 5.00 pm... It takes me less than 10 minutes to get to school from my house, and exactly 30 minutes if I trek. I entered Keke Napep that day, and I was already in front of the school gate before I remembered that I had not taken the textbook.
Dang! How could I have forgotten the most important thing that day, I had to rush home to take it, and luckily I was able to get back to school before 5p.m, I was so lucky because barely 2 minutes after I entered the class, the lecturer came in and locked the door and didn't allow any student to enter again... He was a strict man.
