Getting the masses to vaccinate in Africa could be problematic as there is little to no trust regarding vaccinations in general. This is Malema who is a an opposition party ruler in South Africa tweeting his thoughts to his followers. You have to laugh at his reasoning as it is very basic.

I stumbled across a report today about the roll out of the Covid vaccinations in Africa. I actually found it more amusing than shocking as this is what was always going to happen. Less than 3% of Africa has been vaccinated and it is not from not being able to buy them, but more the attitude they will be donated and get them for free. We have seen this time and time again and it is more like a charity continent.

People are calling it an apartheid vaccine which is a little harsh as Africa is a basket case when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets. Always up for a free something and if we wait long enough other swill pay for what we should have purchased. This is exactly how they think and have lived in Africa long enough to spot this a mile off. I said this would happen with South Africa being every slow on the uptake just in case they don't have to as others will cover their expense.

Not having a dig at any one country in particular as some have actually done rather well having enough vaccines for their entire population. A country like Nigeria though that has a large population has done very little. Last of the big spenders purchasing just over 1.1 million with a population of over 200 million. Thank God it isn't Ebola as one could only imagine, but still this shows intent nd there is none.

I know many countries in Africa have their population who don't want it as there is a lack of trust. Here in South Africa I saw a funny tweet today which got me onto this topic in the first place (top of page). I am no fan of the vaccine myself as I believe if you have had Covid and recovered then the antibodies you have are sufficient. People who have had both vaccines have still died form this so surely having had the Delta variant and beaten it you are golden?

It is more the lack of intent that gets to me as seriously only having bought just over 120 million out of an estimated 1.37 billion tells you everything you need to know. Maybe try a little harder or don't they believe in it at all?.

The point of the entire thing is to open up again properly and to stay open for a lot longer than what we have seen over the last 18 months. Economies are in tatters yet Africa according to what should be applied cannot really open up looking at the figures with an average of less than 4% vaccinations over the continent.

The lack of trust is a big issue that could be the stumbling block as even today the "Sputnik" vaccine was discontinued in Namibia over concerns it could increase the risk of HIV (Aids) among men. In Southern Africa HIV is alarmingly high unlike other parts of the world. South Africa stats showed between 14% and 20% of the population have HIV which tells us it is in fact higher and most likely 25-30% as they have no clue on the exact number of people residing in their borders let alone how many are infected with AIDS.

At this rate we will be lucky to have Africa open for business within a year as until they get over the 50% threshold many will refuse to have it. In some ways I don't blame them but will employees have to abide by new rules we see elsewhere stating no vaccine, no job. I don't know what the solution is as it could be a big problem.
