The first part of this topic posted yesterday was focused on the gender disparity in entitlements among the major sports, feel free to give it a look. Moving away from sports and a bit closer to home though (crypto and our pockets) , the talk about who gets what still reverberates at various levels this time irrespective of gender.

For long here on hive we have deliberated upon and taken actions on getting what the majority feel is a fair rewarding system. From the 75-25 author-curator split, we now have a 50/50 split which has certainly gone down better with investors. It is always important to reiterate how important investors are in any business and while hive isn't your typical run of the mill venture, the fundamentals hold sway in wanting good returns for their investments. Such returns come through curation, delegation and an improvement in value of their stake. It is guaranteed that the Curators/investors will always get a reward for their stake, but how about the authors?

For Authors the path is less smooth, and outcome less guaranteed. A 50-50 split with curators seems like a fair deal on the surface, but it does get trickier with further introspection. The thing is as an author there is simply no guaranteed promise of an audience from potential curators. You could write, make a video, audio or report, but it doesn't necessarily mean someone will view them, much less curate.

One general advice given to improve chances of curation is to improve the quality of content produced. While this may work for a few lucky and talented authors, it won't work for many. An additional advice is engagement with the community in a bid to improve visibility. It is a given that engagement will improve visibility for users, but it may ultimately come up short in dishing what what a really talented author feels is a fair reward for her effort.

So how then do we determine what is a fair deal for talented authors? Nice enough several dapps have come along like dtube and @proofofbrain that seek to better reward talented authors; along with several tribes and communities on the hive chain, all with varying degrees of success. This issue though will likely linger at the back of the minds of many, perhaps prompting many to call it quits. There are many logical steps to take in other for one to get a fairer deal off community, but perhaps none may be as effective as staking.

It is a given that having a large stake automatically improves visibility whether the user is a talented writer or is a chronic shit poster (no offense). As an author having a large stake will make other members of the community more curious about what type of person is behind the stake, with some hoping to get noticed by such stakeholders. We've already discussed the curation part which requires way less effort from the part of such stakeholders.

Unfortunately we can't all buy in, and we can't all hold our stake indefinitely due to varying degrees of circumstances we each face. However, even if we start out small, setting aside some stake to hold every now and then will eventually yield a bigger part of the cake.
