I was getting a bit bored of mostly hitting up small scavenger camps. It was time to focus on some bigger targets. From finding a few outposts to a giant shipwreck called The Alcyon. My bags were about to be overflowing with materials soon enough.
After looting a few caves, I ended up finding a unique schematic in a chest. It allows you to make a fabricator once the item is in question. I ended up getting a Way Of The Fallen pistol and it ended up being my new main weapon of choice for a short while.
While I'd never give up on using a dagger. My new unique pistol outclassed it in terms of damage and just made dealing with scavengers so much easier since I could take most of them out at range.
It seemed there was always a constant reminder that giant sandworms wanted to eat me. This one popped up just behind a dune. It was close enough I'm sure some of the sand that went flying everywhere landed on me.
This was also around the time I started raiding some outposts. Unlike little camps, I've been hitting up that might have one to three scavengers in them. These places could be anything from a single building to a small city. Along with dozens or possibly even more salvagers.
These places also give you Intel points to unlock schematics for all kinds of things from better tools to vehicles. While I had leveled up a couple of times and unlocked a few things. I was feeling quite short in all the things I wanted to unlock and my ability to do so. Raiding such outposts helped resolve that issue.
I would end up keeping an eye out for them. They were quite lucrative to loot and only got better the higher the region I went into was. Sometimes I'd fail to clear them on my first or even second attempt. They were always worth the effort even if I did not make it to any main chests located in them.
I also ended up doing my first trial It turns out there are some hidden temples-like areas around the Arrakis. Some of them are bowls of spice. You end up going on a bit of a journey after inhaling some of the spice.
A bit of a shame I did not get to loot any out of the bowl. As Spice is quite important and I'd be needing an insane amount of it in the later game to advance forward technology-wise. For the time being, however, it was of little consequence to me and not even on my radar to want to collect.
It was as one might expect a bit of an odd journey. I ended up being somewhat guided by a mysterious figure. Most of the things they were saying seemed more nonsense than anything else. It was clear some important information was being passed along to me. How important I could not guess.
A large part of this trial was just hiding from these eyeball light things. They would cast a beam and I needed to stay out of their sight, hide behind objects, and run when the coast was clear.
While these were part of the main storyline you would think I'd be anything but focused on that. An amazing thing happened in Dune Awakening like you hope would in any game. The main questline is something you work on a little here or there, but you are just too busy enjoying the rest of the game to care about focusing only on it.
Sure, it would have been wise to get most of the trials done early. As they end up unlocking some rather important things along the way. I was just too busy having fun doing anything. Not to mention the struggle just to survive.
After some outpost raiding and the trial. I returned to my base to craft up a stillsuit. Stillsuits are these strange suits you wear to recycle the water from your body so you can use it again. It catches some of it and then you drink it.
I’ll be honest. I find the whole idea rather disgusting. While such a suit is great for just going on resource-gathering missions. Anytime I crafted any or looted some. They sat unused in a chest back at the base.
I did give this type of gear a try for a little while. I just preferred other types when dealing with possible combat situations I'd find myself in. There were many other ways of managing the endless struggle with thirst anyways from harvesting water from plants to just carrying around any in a container that I extracted from blood.
Harvesting blood was the other strange activity I quickly found myself involved with. After clearing out an outpost for instance. I’d go around with a blood harvesting device and fill up some blood bags. I’d then haul them back to my base and put them into a blood refiner. After the refining process, I'd get some water out of the hassle of it all.
At one point I ended up climbing up the highest mountain I could find in the area. From there I shot off a survey probe. Needless to say, I was quite thrilled by the detailed map I got out of it.
While the map would not show resource locations. As you must discover those on your own. They did show me key areas of interest. From scavenger camps, outposts, and even caves.
I then started to make a bit of a mission of mine. Between finishing off some contracts I kept getting from the settlement. Along with hitting up a few more of those outposts in the region that I now had the location of.
On one of those adventures to explore around. I ended up finding this vehicle that was flipped over in the middle of two rock outcrops. Not the safest place to be but I did not notice any vibration from the sandworm taking any notice of what I was doing.
I was able to use my cutter to strip down the vehicle for scrap. I ended up having to go around and scan different sections. I’d then use the tool to cut off a wheel or some side panel.
I then discovered a massive wreck. It was some ship called The Alcyon that had crashed. Inside I'd find some rather important materials for crafting armor called Microflora Fiber. I’d end up making a few trips out to these special kinds of wrecks just for that material alone.
Inside after taking out some individuals trying to guard the wreck. I found a storage room that I could cut into. There were a couple of chests inside. Including one with a few Microflora Fiber in it.
I then found myself in the section of the ship that was been the helm or perhaps some kind of map planning room. On one end was a giant map of a planet. In the middle looked to be a chair for a captain and some controls to move the ship. The other side was just some walkways to get around.
There were only a couple of other rooms with some enemies to clear out. I then found a massive chest that had a unique schematic in it. Along with some further Microflora Fiber. I had no idea at the time just how much of that fiber I'd be needing. It would turn out even later I'd still be needing it far beyond what were my humbler times.
Final Thoughts
With my backpack filled again with loot. It was time to make my way back to my base. Thankfully this time no sandworms seemed to care to chase me. I did end up taking the long and safer way back. The last thing I wanted was to lose any of the new loot I had acquired.
