I’m hoping the next phase of the event kicks things off and gets this one a bit more attuned. It’s clear the people farming the hardest parts of the event are not so happy and those effects are trickling down to the rest of us.
It’s not all doom and gloom. I was just kind of hoping there would have been a lot better opportunity to make some ISK while doing stuff I don’t normally do. So far prices have been sliding for days, and it seems the markets are not quite sure where the equilibrium will be.
The first couple of days were amazing. At least from how they looked. Once you get down to it. Not so much. The Tyranite that I mined quite a decent chunk amount that refined into Eleutrium had high listing prices by the players.
There was just one massive issue. The amount of volume selling at insane prices was small enough to fill a thimble. Prices then went on a multiple day crashing spree. Where zero of my Eleutrium sold. I even hauled the stuff to Jita where it just sits needing yet another price adjustment.
The somewhat good news is I held off on a portion of Eleutrium I had. I crafted into filaments that the large corps and alliances would need to get into Drifter wormhole space to go after the end-game content that was waiting for them.
While I was tempted to use a filament myself to go visit the Drifter space. I ended up finding out there would be nothing for me to do there. Other than finding an NPC that you trade special tokens to for not-so-great stuff.
The tokens themself I did craft up a few. I’m glad I did not make any others. They were selling for next to nothing. I even looted a few while out doing exploration sites. Perhaps at some point during the event, there will be more of a need for them. For now, I might as well hold onto them as they are selling for next to nothing.
Beyond that one trader that I'd be able to access assuming I was not ganked on the way to find it. Everything else was locked behind sites that people were running in 15-man or bigger groups with bigger ships than I was willing to use in wormhole space by myself.
There are some funny stories I've been told of people getting doomsdayed by the NPCs in the sites in Rifter space. While there are ways for the larger groups to try and combat such things. No chance for a couple of people to deal with threats like that.
Here lies the issue. There is another NPC after people farm up some keys to run the final site. That appears to be where people are getting officer modes if they have enough tokens to buy them. Other than one of the officer mods everyone wants. The rest people don’t seem to care much for it.
That in turn has been reflected by the prices for anything related to the event for the most part. Not enough people want the filaments to go into the Drifter space. Each filament also takes up to 15 people to the exact size you need.
Many were hoping these would be a more advanced form of Abyssal. They sadly are not. I’ll admit even I'm a little disappointed after finding that out. Perhaps there will be more awaiting in the next phase of the event. I have no idea. For now, it’s not worth mining or crafting.
Now runs into the other issue. Both mining and crafting bring in almost no points for the event. If you could have at least farmed points from making endless filaments the blueprints that everyone has been looting from combat and exploration sites would have had some value. Along with the mineral.
So that leaves you with exploration sites and the combat sites in HS. It seems most don’t care for LS sites since everyone is out looking to hunt those running it. It also sounds like NS got shafted a bit during this event with the lack of context to do down there for the most part.
So that runs into the next issue. If you want the ships from the event you are going to need to grind out 1,050 points. The best way to do that is combat sites or exploration relic sites in HS.
There is also another issue for the first few days. They gave everyone 5 free days of Omega. So you have lots of people out on all their alt accounts wanting to farm for those ships as well.
I kid you not. After the first two days, I got most of my points from exploration. Finding a sleeper relic site in HS became near impossible. At one point I flew into a system that was in the middle of nowhere and there were 5 people scanning ships on the same gate scanning.
There was only one site to scan down. I had already been in that system so I knew it was a wormhole. You would think if you noticed there was only one site in the system and more than three other people were looking for it. That you would just move on to the next spot. Nope.
At one point I went around 50 systems out from where I was. Along the way, I only found two relic sites to scan down and run. One of them already had someone in them. Everything else had been picked clean. Even in the oddest of systems I could think of to go towards there were people out in droves farming.
So, I did the only reasonable thing. I knew it was going to be best to wait. I also had a lot of stuff I needed to move to market anyway. I knew by waiting all the free time accounts would come to an end and people would either go into more expensive ships or take longer to find and run the sites.
I also knew there was that point where the masses found out about something and rushed out to run it. They were a couple of days late to the party. They then would get bored during this event and go off to do other things.
Shortly after the free omega time started to drop from everyone's alt accounts. I started to notice fewer and fewer people again looking for the exploration sites. There were also just more up to find as well. I’d even run into the rare system where I'd get multiple sites at once.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I was hoping this event would have been a little more rewarding. Those running the top sites however seem to not be getting the kinds of rewards they want and so that flows down to everyone else.
It’s not all bad news, however. When I was getting all the exploration sites I could find within reach. I was looting lots of boosters that had zero value listed. Turns out I had around 300 million ISK worth and most have already sold.
On top of that once there were fewer alts farming event stuff. The price of the mineral went and there were fewer people able to farm for the blueprints for the filaments. That is when most of the filaments I had crafted started to sell off.
While so far it might not be as rewarding of an event as I was hoping. It seems the event is starting to turn around a little. On top of that, there are expected to be other things going down during this event as well. Only time will tell if this event ends up being worth the effort over just my normal stuff. It was at the very least fun to go out and do some different stuff so far.
