Castle In The Clouds.jpg

In what I thought would be just running two dungeons ended up turning into a third. A castle in the clouds. First, however, I was not quite ready yet for it. I also needed to gather a special sword for a boss fight.

Darzog’s Tower ended up being quite an important dungeon to run. Like many of the other towers, I had run. It would end up having four levels of being in the tower. Along with a cloud floor that had two main clouds and a couple of smaller platforms on the sides of it.

The first floor was covered in Carnage Hands. The back section of the floor was even empty. I was kind of shocked by how little resistance in enemies I had to even fight here. It still felt like this was perhaps another dungeon I was supposed to be running a lot sooner than I had.

The second floor was filled with a bunch of teleportation traps that would send you to the first floor. There were also some massive stat boosts on this floor. Getting to those twenty increase stat boots ended up being more of the puzzle to the floor than just teleporting around to get to floor three. It was however again another easy floor.

Finding Crodo The overseer.jpg

The third floor ended up being rather exciting. I ended up finding an NPC I had been on the lookout for a little while now named Crodo The Overseer. I also early in the morning had a similar expression to the way the one million experience points gained was in bold. Thankfully I did not wake anyone up. My characters would end up getting two or three-level increases after this tower when I went to see the trainer. Making this a rather fun night indeed.

Next to the same room, I found Crodo the Overseer. There was a ladder to the fourth floor that ended up putting me right next to the stairs to the outdoor section of the dungeon. I ended up doing a quick clear of the floor itself. That required clicking on some paintings on the wall to find a hidden button and opening up some hidden sections.

There was then the outdoor area in the clouds. Filled with flying Roc. Along with many statues that ended up giving some hints about needing to find a special sword that would be needed to kill a boss. Along with where one might be able to find it.

There was also a nice area filled with Roc nests. Each one netted me another 50k experience. This place ended up being rather rewarding for the experience.

There was also a castle up there. I however could not enter it not yet at least. Before trying to solve that mystery I decided it was time to run the other dungeon I had been putting off for far too long.

hints about the dungeon.jpg

Golem dungeon has a few plaques around it talking about wood, stone, and iron. Along with needing to solve a puzzle in each of these areas. There were also signs pointing out wood, stone, and iron sections of the dungeon.

This dungeon could end up being loaded with King’s Mega Credits. I needed some of these anyway to build a dungeon in my castle. I must have looted around a dozen of them while here.

All of these three sections ended up talking a little thinking and doing things in a way that felt just not correct. It would end up working out, however.

The wood section kept talking about trees and branches. There were a bunch of levers in different rooms. When each lever was pulled a wall would close trapping you into each section.

After many attempts to see if there was some way of this not happening. I ended up just using Lloyd’s Beacon that I had set at the start of the dungeon. Then pulling each lever, porting out, and running to the next lever to pull.

This felt like I was setting myself up for failing in a way I could not fix. This however seems to be how it was intended. I’d later get a confirmation from the game itself I was right on this solution for the wood puzzle.

lava stones.jpg

Next up was stone and this one gave me the most trouble. There was a row of stones. Along with three buttons to press. In a different combo of button presses some of the stones would turn into these lava things on the ground.

Since there were only three buttons to press. I ended up going through all the possible three combinations. None of them got all of the blocks of stone to turn into the lava ones.

I’d later realize that this was turning off and on different teleportation traps around the dungeon itself. Most of them put you into void rooms that had no use or into places I had already cleared. That again was not any use.

I ended up finding a combination that worked by having the teleports I needed open to fully clear the rest of the dungeon. I ended up pushing the middle button, the left button, then the far-right button. This combination then allowed me to pull another lever deeper into the dungeon past the next puzzle.

iron puzzle.jpg

Next was the iron puzzle. There again was a set of levers. Instead of closing you in like the wood puzzle. These would end up moving walls around. I ended up noticing the lever on the first left side opened up a path deeper into the dungeon.

I then just went up the left side pulling all those levers. Along with pulling all the levers on the right side. That however did not leave me a path forward. So, after a few tries I ended up keeping two levers on the right-hand side of the room in the “off” position. That left me a path forward into the next chamber.

This led me to sections that had teleports. Along with a final lever, I'd only be able to pull once I had the stone puzzle correct. I was then able to teleport around to the final rooms of the dungeon.

diamond golem.jpg

It seems this dungeon serves as some kind of gear check. These diamond golems were so tough. I ended up failing to clear out groups of them about a dozen times.

I was cleared up until this part of the dungeon before I had finished off the other remaining tower dungeons. After so many failed attempts I went and worked on them. Getting the needed levels and gear upgrades to take on these diamond golems.

Even then they were quite a tough fight. Getting one alone was hard enough. Sometimes I'd end up pulling two or three at a time. I even had one instance where all my casters were out of mana and I could not finish off the last of three golems.

The reward for finishing off this dungeon was getting +1 level to all characters. Not a bad reward. Since levels in this version require a lot of experience. I then went off with all the tokens I had for a basement to be built in my castle.

I was half expecting to fight some crazy creatures down in the dungeons of my castle. The was quite empty. I ended up looting some potions of the gods down there. In the middle was a sword I'd be needing for the final boss fight on the cloud side of the game.

I then used a Llyod’s beacon point I had saved at the cloud portion of Darzog’s Tower. Before I could enter the castle, I had to pass some stat checks in the form of challenges that were next to the castle. That gave me the key I needed to enter.

The castle itself was filled with a lot of nasty traps. These traps however could be disabled by finding each type of corresponding machine that was controlling them. They were also worth a decent amount of experience for taking them out.

damage machines.jpg

I ended up making my way to the top floor a couple of times. The first two times were to shut off the different machines. Both are on the left and right side of the first floor. This in return disabled all the traps in the center room so I could make my final way up to the last floor.

fight with Xeen.jpg

After taking out so many guards and even a dragon that was guarding the final boss. It was time to take on Xeen. He could in a single hit eradicate multiple members of my group. I ended up trying a few different tricks to try and pull him in so I could take at least damage as much as possible. None of them worked.

I ended up realizing that a single hit from the character that was holding the sword I got out of my dungeon's basement nearly killed him. A second hit was all that it took to get the job done.

So in a last attempt instead of trying to do damage with other characters. I instead rushed towards him hoping the character with the sword would not get killed. I then landed the two blows I needed with my entire group dead but the sword holder itself. Who thankfully was able to revive the rest of my group.

I was then able to make my way to the sixth mirror. This would end up being the last thing I needed to do to finish off the first half of World Of Xeen. Along with Might and Magic IV portion of the game from what I could tell.

I won’t spoil too much of what occurred. Although it is quite an old game. Sometimes there are just things you need to see for yourself.

Final Thoughts

score screen.jpg

Like a true ending to a Might and Magic game after some strange stuff goes down. I got a score screen. I then got kicked out of the game. It had saved me from having beaten the first half of the game. The castle that Xeen was in was now gone.

While I had some side quests to finish on the cloud side of the game. Along with who knows what else. It was also now time to start working on the harder dark side of the game.

While this first half felt rather short. Since I can only play the World of Xeen and not the pure Might and Magic IV version. I have no idea if there was more to make this game last a bit longer or what.

What I do know for certain is my adventure was just getting started. I had a whole half of the game or Might and Magic V to check out next. While I could not wait to see it. It was like 4 AM at the time I had done this. It was time for a much-needed rest. Even if I so wanted to just keep going as so far this one is quite a fun Might and Magic to play.
