In the blog post today I am going to talk about my experience with UPI [Unified Payments Interface] - ATM and how it came to my rescue when I needed cash and was not having any of my bank debit cards. Before I get any further a note on what UPI is and why it is so important here in India. Unified Payments Interface aka UPI is a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) that allows users to instantly transfer money between bank accounts using a mobile device. Yes the money transfer is that instant from one bank to another bank account.
UPI-ATM - How to Withdraw CASH via UPI
Now coming to my story. I was in Delhi the capital of India few days ago and it so happened that I forgot to carry my bank debit cards thinking that I wouldn't need it as I can do UPI payments anywhere. But I was wrong to think so and long story short I landed up in a situation where I needed cash in hand. Necessity is the mother of invention not having a debit card and I needed cash - what should I do now? To be honest, I didn't knew this before that via UPI-ATM enabled machines one can withdraw cash without having a debit card. Yes its true and I tired it out myself and thanks to my friend in Delhi enlightening me about this service which was long time back introduced by the banks. I was very happy when my friend told me about it and all I had to do is search an ATM [Automated Teller Machine] near me that was UPI enabled. To my rescue I found an ATM machine which was just like 10 minutes walk away and then I just had to follow simple steps to get the cash withdrawal. The above image by paisabazar clearly depicts the entire process and trust me it was very easy to withdraw cash using the UPI method. Here are the high level steps that I had followed::
- Select - "UPI Cash" as a withdrawal method
- Enter the amount you want to withdraw; Tip try a smaller amount first
- Immediately after entering the amount a single-use QR code popped up on the screen
- Use your mobile to scan the QR code via the UPI app. I leveraged my Gpay App here to transfer the money from my bank account to the QR code displayed details
- You need to authorize the transaction
- Once the transaction is confirmed - All is done meaning
- Cash will be dispensed from the ATM machine and there you go withdrawing Cash from the ATM without a Debit card.
How handy this could be - have ever thought about it? I was at ease following through all the steps and when I got the cash in my hand. There were other options as well to get the cash but I didn't wanted to take help of others and wanted a mechanism like this one withdrawing cash via the UPI was perfect and it was just my ignorance not know about it. Well its never too late and I thought to share the same here on #hive blockchain so that it could help others just incase they come across this kind of a scenario and UPI-ATM should come at rescue here for sure.
