I often go to this place, but I never get a place, aka I'm just told to wait for an available seat slot. I hate waiting, so I just come and ask, if there are no seats available then I just go home and don't join the queue.
This is the third time, I didn't get a place but I still keep trying. Finally, on the fourth try, I got a place even though I had to wait 2 minutes for the available table and chairs to be cleaned.
Ho-Ta Ramen, that's the name. The place is really very small, even from outside we can already tell that this restaurant is crowded. Squeezed between two buildings that are much larger in size. However, for some reason this restaurant is more crowded than other places here.
It's 2 minutes from my house, close enough that I've been here 4 times. This curiosity is getting thicker, even though I've been rejected 3 times. Always crowded, that's what I know.
Oddly enough, this is not too viral and even underrated for most people, but, Japanese food lovers in Medan city should know this. Because, I'm afraid they will disappear like most other Japanese restaurants.
There are only a few menus here, not too many and prioritize quality, not quantity in terms of menu and taste. But that's the right place for us to visit, again and again.
There are 4 main menus, Extreme Tori, Yuxu Kosho, Kara and Kuro. Simple right? Well because there are only four and I was only with my wife, we chose only two menus. I chose extreme tori and my wife ordered kuro.
I tried to explain what kind of experience I felt for the first time eating here, but what is clear is, this is one of the best ramen where it has a noodle texture that is really me. Noodles that are chewy but very soft in the throat, not too chewy and the taste is just right.
In my order, it was a little extreme because it was spicy even without the addition of chili. I like the meat filling which is more smoky and very soft. They use chicken thighs that are boiled with the right technique without feeling like coarse fibers.
For kuro with wagyu beef, this is the best in my opinion, because the taste is more mild but the dashi flavor is more pronounced. Although for a bowl of ramen with wagyu the price is very cheap, around 3 USD, they still use wagyu that is not just any wagyu. It feels very soft when I first chew it.
Ordering ramen, don't forget a glass of ocha that can be refilled 2 times. This is the thing I like the most in every Japanese restaurant.
