Hello friends, fans of good stories, I hope you're feeling great today. This time, I want to share a new review with you all. We'll talk about my thoughts on the film: Blink Twice, it left me thinking a lot... not just because of the jump scares that hit you by surprise, it's a crazy trip, one of those that leaves you wondering what the heck just happened... it's a really strange mix, I swear, of dark comedy, mystery, and even a touch of social criticism.
And speaking of interesting things, Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut is this film... who would have expected that? The truth is that she gave it her all, leaving aside what one would think of her as an actress in films like The Batman, seeing her behind the cameras and involved in the script is like a breath of fresh air, how good that she dared to make these changes... From the beginning, the film grabs you with an idea that sounds crazy: a millionaire who invites a waitress and her friend to a private island... WTF! He promises them a luxury vacation to escape from the routine, but, as you can imagine, that relaxing trip goes to hell very quickly and turns into something much more sinister, like when you're having a nice dream and suddenly everything turns into a nightmare, I remember that in one scene, with the room dark, I felt my heart racing, wondering if at any moment I would be able to breathe easy in the midst of so much suspense... it's that mix of strong emotions, between fear and excitement, that defines Blink Twice.
If you're like me and you like movies that don't follow the rules, you'll love how this one moves between dark comedy and mystery thriller, it's like a cocktail of emotions, you know? Every sip is a surprise, sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, sometimes it hits you so hard you didn't even expect, there are moments that make you laugh out loud and others that leave you glued, very attentive... it's as if Zoë had been inspired by great movies like Get Out and Knives Out, but giving it her own twist, there are even nods to Jordan Peele, especially in how she builds tension and plays with what you expect to happen.
Hola amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que se encuentren genial en el día de hoy, en esta ocasión quiero compartir con todos ustedes una nueva reseña, hablaremos de mis opiniones sobre la película: Blink Twice, me dejó pensando un montón.. no solo por los sustos que te pegan de sorpresa, es un viaje loco, de esos que te dejan pensando qué rayos acaba de pasar.. es una mezcla bien rara, te lo juro, entre comedia oscura, misterio y hasta un toque de crítica social.
Y hablando de cosas interesantes, el debut de Zoë Kravitz dirigiendo está película.. ¿quién se lo esperaba? La verdad es que lo dió todo, dejando de lado lo que uno pensaría de ella como actriz en pelis como The Batman, verla detrás de cámaras y metida en el guion es como un soplo de aire fresco, que bien que se haya atrevido a realizar estos cambios.. Desde el principio, la película te atrapa con una idea que suena muy loca: un millonario que invita a una mesera y a su amiga a una isla privada… ¡WTF! Les promete unas vacaciones de lujo para escapar de la rutina, pero, como te imaginarás, ese viaje relajado se va al carajo rapidísimo y se convierte en algo mucho más siniestro, como cuando estás soñando bonito y de repente todo se vuelve una pesadilla, me acuerdo que en una escena, con el cuarto a oscuras, sentía el corazón a mil por hora, preguntándome si en algún momento iba a poder respirar tranquilo en medio de tanto suspenso.. es que esa mezcla de emociones fuertes, entre miedo y emoción, es lo que define Blink Twice.
Si eres como yo y te gustan las pelis que no siguen las reglas, te va a encantar cómo esta se mueve entre la comedia negra y el thriller de misterio, es como un cóctel de emociones, ¿sabes? Cada sorbo una sorpresa, a veces dulce, a veces amargo, a veces te pega fuerte que ni te esperabas, hay momentos que te sueltan una carcajada y otros que te dejan pegado muy atento.. es como si Zoë se hubiera inspirado en peliculones como Get Out y Knives Out, pero dándole su propio toque, incluso hay guiños a lo Jordan Peele, sobre todo en cómo te va metiendo la tensión y jugando con lo que esperas que pase.
The photography in this film is crazy, the colors are super vivid, everything shines, and the camera moves in such a thoughtful, intentional way, that each shot seems to want to show you how beautiful and dangerous that paradise is at the same time, there were moments when I was trapped, just admiring the colors, the light, how they played with the shadows... you can tell that Zoë Kravitz has an incredible eye for these things, you can see that she is passionate about telling stories with images, you can feel it in each frame. And not to mention the sound and music, they throw you headlong into that strange, disturbing dream vibe the film has. I really found myself thinking about how all those technical details made me feel like I was there, in that strange world they created.
But, let's be honest, no movie is perfect, and Blink Twice isn't safe either. Despite the visuals and the ambitious general idea being great, the script sometimes stumbles, as if the big ideas are a bit too big for it. There are some dialogues that sound a little odd, as if they were forced in, and the story has some gaps and flaws that made me think "what the heck" several times. I was left with the feeling that if they had had someone to support them more with the script, the story could have been much better, more polished. It's as if the film tried to cover too many genres at once—dark comedy, thriller, and also throw in a social commentary on feminism. machismo and the union between women—and in the end, it seemed like it got a little overboard and lost its way a bit, the connection between everything...
And speaking of the social aspect, Blink Twice stands there as if it were the representative Get Out... using the story to talk about who has the power and how women don't have it easy, I personally like movies that aren't afraid to touch on complicated subjects... it's cool when a movie not only wants to entertain you, but also make you think a little, but there were also moments when the message felt very direct, very obvious, as if the movie was more concerned with making its position clear than telling you a thriller that would keep you glued to your seat... that opens up an interesting debate: can a movie well mix an important social message without losing the tension and mystery that a thriller needs? For me, the result was like a roller coaster, with highs and lows.
Lo que es la fotografía de esta película es una locura, los colores son súper vivos, todo brilla, y la cámara se mueve de una forma tan pensada, tan intencional, que cada toma parece que te quiere mostrar lo hermoso y lo peligroso de ese paraíso al mismo tiempo, hubo momentos en los que me quedé atrapado, solo admirando los colores, la luz, cómo jugaban con las sombras.. se nota que Zoë Kravitz tiene un ojo increíble para estas cosas, se ve que le apasiona contar historias con imágenes, en cada encuadre se siente. Y ni hablar del sonido y la música, te meten de cabeza en esa onda de sueño raro y perturbador que tiene la película, de verdad que me quedé pensando en cómo todos esos detalles técnicos me hicieron sentir que estaba ahí, en ese mundo extraño que crearon..
Pero, a ver, seamos sinceros, ninguna peli es perfecta, y Blink Twice tampoco se salva, a pesar de que la parte visual y lo ambiciosa que es la idea general son geniales, el guion a veces como que se tropieza, como que las ideas grandes le quedan un poco grandes.. hay diálogos que suenan un poco raros, como si estuvieran metidos a la fuerza, y la historia tiene algunos huequitos y fallas que me hicieron pensar "que rayos" varias veces.. Me quedó la sensación de que si hubieran tenido a alguien que apoyará más en el guion, la historia podría haber quedado mucho mejor, más pulida.. es como si la película quisiera abarcar demasiados géneros a la vez—comedia negra, thriller, y de paso meter un comentario social sobre feminismo, machismo y la unión entre mujeres—y al final, como que se le fue un poco la mano y perdió un poco el rumbo, la conexión entre todo..
Y hablando de lo social, Blink Twice se planta ahí como si fuera la Get Out representativa.. usando la historia para hablar de quién tiene el poder y de cómo las mujeres no la tienen fácil, a mí, personalmente, me gustan las pelis que no le tienen miedo a tocar temas complicados.. es chévere cuando una película no solo quiere entretenerte, sino también hacerte pensar un poquito, pero también hubo momentos en los que el mensaje se sentía como muy directo, muy obvio, como si la peli estuviera más preocupada por dejar clara su postura que por contarte un thriller que te mantuviera pegado al asiento.. ahí se abre un debate interesante: ¿será que una película puede mezclar bien un mensaje social importante sin que se le vaya la tensión y el misterio que necesita un thriller? Para mí, el resultado fue como una montaña rusa, con momentos altos y bajos.
Another thing I want to highlight is the cast... the film really surprised me there. Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum... what chemistry! You can tell they understand each other incredibly well, and all the scenes between them are brilliant, very believable... but the one who left me speechless was Channing Tatum. Remember him, the one from the most chill movies? Well, here he delivered a performance you'd never imagine. It really surprised me a lot. He excelled in a role that was quite different from anything we'd seen before... and the rest of the cast isn't far behind either. Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, and the always spectacular Adri Arjona all bring passion and make the story grow with their solid performances. I especially loved Adri Arjona. His performance is so real, so sincere, that he lifts any scene, even when the script isn't much help.
And another thing that blew my mind was how the film plays with contrasts, between the happy and the dark... at first, everything is partying, colorful, joyful: the characters on the island having a great time, drinking, dancing, living life to the fullest... and suddenly, boom! everything changes suddenly, the tone goes to hell... that shift from paradise to hell hits you hard. It's a risk that, honestly, turned out pretty well, but I have to say that sometimes the rhythm seems to fail a little... there are scenes that seem to be very long, and others that fly by, and in the end you feel like the film is a bit disorganized, like it lacks balance. Here it's inevitable to compare Blink Twice with other films that have come out lately in the same style... you can tell they kept an eye on Glass Onion, The Menu, Midsommar, even Infinity Pool... it's like they're giving it a nod, in that mix of humor, mystery and horror, but at the same time, Kravitz adds his own twist, his own style. It's as if she wants us to ask ourselves what we expect from a thriller: Is it just a mystery to solve, or can it also be a critique of how crazy the world is today? While I don't know if the film ultimately achieves that perfect balance, I have to say I like that they tried.
Otra cosa que quiero destacar, el elenco.. de verdad que ahí la película me sorprendió, Naomi Ackie y Channing Tatum… qué química! se nota que se entienden súper bien, y todas las escenas entre ellos son geniales, muy creíbles.. pero quien me dejó con la boca abierta fue Channing Tatum, ¿te acuerdas de él, el de las pelis más relax? Pues aquí se mandó una actuación que ni te imaginas, de verdad que me sorprendió un montón, se lució con un papel bien diferente a lo que le hemos visto antes.. y ojo que el resto del elenco tampoco se queda atrás. Christian Slater, Alia Shawkat, Simon Rex, y la siempre espectacular Adri Arjona, todos le meten pasión y hacen que la historia crezca un montón con sus actuaciones sólidas, Adri Arjona, en especial, me encantó, su actuación es tan real, tan sincera, que levanta cualquier escena, incluso cuando el guion no ayuda mucho.
Y otra cosa que me voló la cabeza fue cómo la película juega con los contrastes, entre lo alegre y lo oscuro.. al principio, todo es fiesta, color, alegría: los personajes en la isla pasándola súper bien, bebiendo, bailando, viviendo la vida al máximo.. y de repente, ¡pum! todo cambia de golpe, el tono se va al carajo.. ese cambio del paraíso al infierno te pega fuerte. Es un riesgo que, la verdad, les salió bastante bien, pero tengo que decir que a veces el ritmo como que falla un poco.. hay escenas que se hacen larguísimas, y otras que pasan volando, y al final sientes como que la película está un poco desordenada, como que le falta equilibrio, aquí es inevitable comparar Blink Twice con otras pelis que han salido últimamente del mismo estilo.. se nota que le echaron ojo a Glass Onion, The Menu, Midsommar, hasta Infinity Pool.. como que le hacen un guiño a esas pelis, en esa mezcla de humor, misterio y terror, pero a la vez, Kravitz le pone su propia onda, su propio estilo. Es como si ella quisiera que nos preguntemos qué esperamos de un thriller, ¿Solo un misterio para resolver o también puede ser una crítica a lo loco que está el mundo hoy en día? aunque no sé si al final la película logra ese equilibrio perfecto, tengo que decir que me gusta que lo hayan intentado.
If you're deciding to watch it, here's an important fact: Blink Twice is not rated for children, in Spain it's for ages 16 and over and in the United States it's rated R, so be careful with that, it's not just because of the blood or violence, but because it touches on strong themes and the way it deals with them, so you know... in the end, Blink Twice left me thinking, I swear, but in a weird way, you know? I don't really know what to think... but I do tell you that as Zoë Kravitz's first film as a director, it has enormous potential! I left Vermay thinking I had seen something different, something that dared to break the rules in a world of cinema that is sometimes very similar, but it's also true that the script sometimes falters, and the ending, to be honest, is a bit predictable, and that left me thinking about how great it could have been and wasn't at all.
It's as if the film was a risky experiment, that went all out, and some things turned out amazing, but others not so much. If I had to give it a grade, I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10, in terms of technique, photography, music, art, impeccable! The performances are good, you mostly believe them, but the story gets tangled up at times, and the mix of genres doesn't always work as well as you'd hope... but if you're looking for a movie that surprises you, that isn't more of the same, that plays with different styles, this could be for you... it's not a masterpiece, but it is a debut that promises a lot and leaves you wanting to see what else Zoë Kravitz will do in the future. It's a movie that gives you something to talk about, something to discuss, and most importantly, it makes you think, you may love it or hate it, but it is an experience... and well, that's all for today... we'll see you in the next reviews, take care! Si te estás animando a verla, un datito importante: Blink Twice tiene una clasificación que no es para niños, en España es para mayores de 16 y en Estados Unidos es clasificación R, así que pilas con eso, no es solo por la sangre o la violencia, sino porque toca temas fuertecitos y la forma en que los trata, así que ya sabes.. al final, Blink Twice me dejó pensando, te lo juro, pero de una manera rara, ¿me entiendes? Como que no sé bien qué pensar.. pero sí te digo que como primera peli de Zoë Kravitz como directora, ¡tiene un potencial enorme! Salí de verla pensando que había visto algo diferente, algo que se atrevió a romper las reglas en un mundo del cine que a veces es como muy similar, pero también es verdad que el guion a veces como que tambalea, y el final, siendo honesto, es un poco predecible, y eso me dejó pensando en lo genial que pudo haber sido y no fue del todo..
Es como si la película fuera un experimento arriesgado, que se jugó el todo por el todo, y algunas cosas salieron increíble, pero otras no tanto.. si tuviera que ponerle nota, le daría un 7 de 10 sólido, en lo técnico, la fotografía, la música, el arte, ¡impecable! Las actuaciones están bien, la mayoría te las crees, pero la historia como que a veces se enreda, y esa mezcla de géneros no siempre funciona tan bien como uno esperaría.. pero si andas buscando una peli que te sorprenda, que no sea más de lo mismo, que juegue con estilos diferentes, esta puede ser para ti.. no es una obra maestra, pero sí un debut que promete un montón y te deja con ganas de ver qué más va a hacer Zoë Kravitz en el futuro. Es una película que da para hablar, para discutir, y lo más importante, te hace pensar, puede que la ames o que la odies, pero de que es una experiencia.. y bueno, eso es todo por hoy.. nos veremos en las próximas reseñas, cuidense mucho!
