I arrived home safe and sound earlier this afternoon...

And after a quick unpacking of the truck, my wife followed me into the city where I had to meet face to face with the company that has been giving me so much grief over the past few months.

The wheels are in motion for me to get compensated for my time in the company and I hope it all works out.

I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the progress and of course, the new challenges ahead in my new career. Good thing is, I've got an interview first thing in the morning with a...GASP...Reputable trucking company! They do exist :)

This entire experience actually gave me quite the life lesson, and like I do from time to time...My experiences, turn into a blog post lol

So the company I worked for, has been in business for over a decade. Not really the longest running company out there, but it does have some years under it's belt. When I sat down with the owner a few weeks ago, I shared with him the story of how my own company fell on hard times, first through the PayPal fiasco. And then trying to rebuild during COVID.

We shared experiences and I remember him saying to me...

"You know how it is in business!"

Actually...No. I don't and let me explain.

You see, being in business for yourself is hard. There are no guarantees. I always said being an entrepreneur meant you went to work for 80 hours a week sometimes for the chance, not the guarantee in income.

Peaks and valleys happen. It's a roller coaster and you have to play the game. Which means, things don't always go your way. There are no guarantees, and sadly this is why many people fail at building their own business because just that....There are no guarantees.

But here's what you have, no matter what crap gets thrown at you along the way.

You have your word!

And when I met with this guy in his office a few weeks ago, he looked me in the eye and shook my hand. While promising that pay checks would be coming each and every week going forward.

Not only did they not come, but the check I did get...Bounced lol

You see, that was the last straw for me. Not because of the issues with the pay. Things happen. I get it. Sure they could have handled things better but that wasn't the final nail in the coffin for me. To me, it came down to his word. And I simply did not trust it anymore.

This is the lesson....And I REALLY hope any of you thinking of building a business will remember this because it can potentially save your career.

All you have, is your word.

And once you lose that trust people have in what you say, that's it. It's finished.

The peaks and valleys will come. Sometimes you may have to make the hard call, just for the love of everything that's good...Be upfront and be a man or woman of your word!

Because again, at the end of the day...When everything is settled....It's all you will ever have and all you will ever be able to control!
