The Captain surveyed the horizon to the south-west carefully with his longscope as Cockpit Mate Andofzara held the big wheel in a firm grip.

“We’ll make Irondequoit by nightfaa tha' moorns nicht at thes pace.” “Aye Sairrr, an' Ahh’ll be glad tae see's it!” The Captain turned and smiled, “It shoods be profitable.”

[On the Silverton...thirty miles north-east of Irondequoit...] Seaman Rcange and Elshstacker stood on the main boom just after sunrise having drawn the mainsail taught. The view was pristine as the morning sun danced and sparkled on the waves to the south-west…

“Rumor has it we’re heading to Irondequoit?” Rcange asked as he held on to the ratline. “Aye, that’s what’s being said.” “What for?” “No doubt the captain is thinking of selling this French hulk!” Elshstacker replied matter-of-factly. “What kind of price will she get in such a condition?” “I don’t think the captain really cares mate! Ha-ha!”

Rcange nodded and lifted an eyebrow as he pondered the thought.

[Down below…Commander Galligan’s cabin…] Warrant Officer Errislravenhill tapped lightly on the heavy oak door…

“Comes in…” The Commander’s voice rang-out from within.

Opening the door, Errisl stopped and gazed at the man sitting upright in his chair. “Tougher than nails”, she thought to herself as she smiled.

“Blimey it’s guid tae see ye up an' aboot! Hoo dae ye feel Sairrr?” She said as she closed the door behind her. “Loch Ahh’ve got a harpoon in mah belly!” Galligan replied with a grin, “But Ahh cannae greit. Ahh’m breathin'!” Errisl smiled as she sat down across from him. This wasn’t really a personal visit…so why did feel like it? - She wondered briefly before pushing those thoughts aside.

“Galligan…Sairrr… I’ve come tae ask ye a question aboot th' toor?” Galligan raised an eyebrow and tilted his head slightly, “Ask awa' Lass…” “Weel, ye see…there’s a rumur floatin' aboot…I mean, some of th' men…” Errisl started, then paused, feeling much more like a busy-body than a Warrant Officer at the moment. Galligan leaned forward…” A rumur? Aboot th' toor?”

“Aye Sairrr. Ye see, some o’ th' crew hav said they heard…that nae far tae th' west, there’s a... stoatin faa of water.” Errisl waded in cautiously.

Galligan sat back and glanced away a moment…

“Is it true?”
