⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵...(Tour of "High Island")...

[Last time...]

Errisl glanced at the furrier. He shook his head and turned away. She then looked at the Harbor Chief who exhaled audibly and exited the platform towards the dock shanty.

”Sold! Thee-thoosand oonces o’ silvers!” Errisl yelled out, waving her hat in the air with the other crewman gathering around in cheers and chants!

Quickly, the stranger pulled out a money bag and counted out forty and a quarter ounces of gold. Pouring the coins into the cupped hands of another stranger, he stuffed the money bag back into his vest.

“Payez la dame!" He whispered as he turned around and disappeared into the crowd.

[Irondequoit...on the wharf...] Petty Officer Sg-community held out her hat as the stranger made his way out of the crowd and approached her. He had an odd way about him and his hands were carefully cupped together tightly.

For a moment, she thought to put a hand to the hilt of her dagger, but finally relaxed as the man stopped short in front of her and offered up his payment. Looking down, there in his hands was a sizable pile of gold coins! Sg was taken by surprise as she looked back up at him…

“Are you the buyer?”

The man shook his head, “No”.

Standing next to SG, Junior Petty Officer Ilversaver888 spoke out in surprise…

“Gold! Cat’s tails! He’s paying in gold!”

Before they could thank the stranger, he quickly dumped the coins into Sg’s hat and disappeared back into the crowd.

“What do you make of that mucker?” Sg exclaimed in surprise.

“I don’t know, but we better have Warrant Officer Errislravenhill check it. I don’t know the conversion!”

As they quickly turned back towards Errisl and Cockpit Mate Andofzara, Sg opened her hat up for all to see. The afternoon sun sparkled and danced on the face of the coins like all so much…well- gold! “Gauld?!” Andofzara exclaimed in surprise as Errisl reached down and picked up one of the coins. “French gauld...” She added, as she rolled the coin from side to side, “Who’s got French gauld in Irondequoit?”

Putting coin between her eye teeth, she bit down gently before taking it out again…”An' it’s real…” “That’s worth thee thoosain oonce o' silvers?” Andofzara asked. “Let’s see…”

Carefully Errisl counted out each coin until she had them all…”Forty an' a quarter oonces… belchin’ barnacles, th' payment is reit!”

Sg and Ilversaver glanced at each other in amazement.

“I’ve ne'er seen 'att much gauld!” Andofzara said. “Aye, an' neither hav Ahh. Cheil th' boats an' let’s shove-aff- noo!” Errisl said as she quickly poured the coins into her money pouch and tucked it safely in her tunic.

With one last wary glance at the talkative crowd, she made for the rope ladder and disappeared over the edge of the dock.

[On the Silverton…the bridge…] The captain held a steady scope on the approaching longboats...

“Blimey 'att was fest! They’re cuttin' water loch a boorichie o' dolphins! Hmmmf…” He said half to himself and half to Petty Officer Ypresious who stood at the wheel. “They sold her Sairrr?” “Aye they did, they’re nae towin' onie vessel. But wa' th' fury…?” The captain replied calmly as he watched the oarsmen pull through their strokes like they were in a naval academy race, “They’ve got fire in their bluid!”

Yprecious shielded his eyes with his hand and gazed south at the two approaching longboats. The arc of the oarsmen flashed in the sunlight like so many bee’s wings fanning the water’s surface.

“Flaming flappergills! They are coming in fast!” He exclaimed in excitement. “Aye…maybe tay fest…” The captain added as he dropped his scope, “Man th' capstan an' prepaur tae hoist anchur...” “Aye, aye Sairrr!” Yprecious said with a saluted as he scampered down the bridge stairs and started calling out orders. ⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵
