⛵ ⛵ ⛵ ⛵...(Tour of "High Island")...

[Last time...]

Caporal Chief leaned forward a bit...“I know much…but I tell you this...the whole of France has a price on his head! And she will not rest until Slane hangs!”

The younger man raised his eyebrows and set his glass down on the table-top…”We will need fighting men; the Corvette is lightly gunned.” “I am not a sailing man my friend, that is your job. But I am a soldier. We will have fighting men, thirty strong…just as soon as we leave this God forsaken ricain town!”

“Let’s hope it’s just a week! My land-legs aren’t that good!”

[Irondequoit...at the wharf...] Caporal Chief stood on the dock adjacent to the French Corvette La Serpent. The chilly air drove his hands into the pockets of his overcoat as he watched the long barge move slowly eastward up the harbor shoreline. Heavily laden with White Pine trunks from the local mill, she sat low in the water. Her cargo was precious as they were slated to become the new masts for La Serpent. Next to him stood Captain Monet.

”Things seem to be progressing well.” Caporal Chief said quietly. “And the soldiers?” “Thirty of my own Legionnaires. They’re bunkered in Wellington as we speak.” “North shore?” “Yes. Getting six Frenchmen into colonial territory is one thing, but thirty soldiers…too risky.” “It will take us a day to cross.” “I know. And are your sailors staying off the streets?” “Yes, but they're antsy, holed-up like bees in a hive!" The captain replied. “Just three more days my friend. Keep them well ailed!” “Ha-ha! Yes, I can at least do that.” [On the Silverton…the forecastle…] “I can see the lights from Youngstown…” Petty Officer Time said as he gazed south with his arms folded. “Yes, and me too. I wonder why the captain has downed the sails?” Petty Officer Urie replied. “Something about choosing a shore party…” Petty Officer Tayoutoftherz added as he stepped out of the way and let Standing Officer Yprecious come up the stairs, “Sir!”
The men all saluted quickly as Yprecious came up on the forecastle…

“The river is running fast from the inlands, better drop a second anchor.” He said as he too gazed south towards the shoreline. “Right away Sir!” Urie replied as he left the deck and started calling out orders on the main deck. “By the way Time, have you seen Standing Officer Ve3?” Yprecious asked. “No Sir, not since the day before yesterdays.” “Hmmm…odd.” [Down in the chartroom…] Boy Tipper bounced his ball across the floor and dogs ‘Doug’ and ‘Skye’ scampered after it, banging into the far wall and earning a disgruntled eye from the captain. “Blast it loon! Git those beasties oot o’ me chartroom!” He barked as he laid down his pencil. “Aye Sairrr! Sorry Sairrr!” Tipper replied as he quickly pushed the dogs towards the door, hands on rumps until they slid out into the hallway and the ball went rolling down-ship.

“Naw close it!”
“Aye Sairrr!”

With relative peace restored, Tipper hung in the edge of the table and watched as the captain laid down the last lines on his chart.

“Is silvers runnin' high Sairrr?”
“Hmmmf, nae. 'Er rin north has bin burst... Fockin' Benk of Englain! Errr…pardon me French laddie…”
“Hee-hee! Ahh ken th' wuird!” Tipper said with a grin. “Weel, ken it ur nae, yoo’re nae tae use it! Noo pay attention tae th' chart Lad…”
