True love is long-suffering and kind. This is not a phrase I came up with myself. It is in the letter to the Romans, Chapter 13, which is entitled: “The preeminences of love”. If there is anything in life to which this phrase fits perfectly, it is penguins. These beautiful creatures, once they find a mate, it is for life and the mutual support and care between them is sacrificial. They take turns incubating the eggs and both are equally responsible for the feeding and care of the young.

Thinking of them, I took inspiration to make this drawing. It was a fairly simple drawing to make, however, as I mentioned before, black is a color that requires precision and to get some illumination, it is important to apply color from the lightest to the darkest. For this drawing I used my pastel plaster palettes, a graphite pencil, eraser and three brushes, one for blurring, a precision brush for the narrower places and a broom brush to remove residue.
Pensando en ellos, tomé inspiración para hacer este dibujo. Fue un dibujo bastante sencillo de realizar, sin embargo, como lo he mencionado antes, el color negro es un color con el que se requiere precisión y para conseguir algo de iluminación, es importante ir aplicando color desde lo más claro hacia lo más oscuro. Para este dibujo utilicé mis paletas de yeso pastel, un lápiz de grafito, borrador y tres pinceles, uno para difuminar, otro de precisión para los lugares más estrechos y uno tipo escoba para remover residuos.
I made the strokes of the drawing with the graphite pencil. Looking at several images to have a guide shape of the penguins, I could notice that because they are dark colored, the separation lines of the figures, especially in the wings, are light lines and this was perhaps the most complex part, especially because I lost my retractable eraser that helps me a lot with the lights and illumination.
Realicé los trazos del dibujo con el lápiz de grafito. Mirando varias imágenes para tener una forma guia de los pingüinos, pude notar que por ser de color oscuros, las líneas de separación de las figuras, sobre todo en las alas, son líneas de luz y está fue la parte quizás más complejas, sobre todo porque perdí mi borrador retractil que me ayuda mucho con las luces e iluminación.
Then we continued applying beige, some yellow and white. I didn't want the lighter part to be completely white, but with some shadow and texture. Then I applied orange and yellow degrading from the darkest to the lightest, I did this on the head extending it towards the chest and the wings.
Luego seguimos aplicando color beige, algo de amarillo y blanco. La parte más clara no la quería completamente blanca, sino con algo de sombra y textura. Luego apliqué color naranja y amarillo degradando del más oscuro al más claro, esto lo hice en la cabeza extendiedolo hacia el pecho y nacimiento de las alas.
I continued applying blue in the background to visually help me with the figure. I applied black and brown to outline the silhouette of the birds and the egg to have a starting point to apply the black plaster.

I started with the legs. I confess that the color black always intimidates me because there is no going back with it. So I started with the legs in case I messed it up, I could do something to disguise it, maybe a little snow, logical that it would have been necessary, it was going to be a little cloudy, not attractive, by the way.

When I had a little more confidence, I continued with the beak of one of the birds, then with the rest of the body. On the eye part I thought of doing the eye first, then with the thin brush on the eye contour to give a little volume and then continue with intense black, so the eye could be appreciated in all the darkness.
Cuando tuve un poco más de confianza, seguí con el pico de una de las aves, luego con el resto del cuerpo. En la parte de los ojos se me ocurrió hacer primero el ojo, luego con el pincel delgado sobre el contorno del ojo para dar un poco de volumen y luego seguir con con negro intenso, así el ojo se podría apreciar en toda la oscuridad.
