Today, I’m thrilled to share with you my newest digital fan art, inspired by one of my favorite evolutions in the Holozing universe—Verdarox!
This adorable little creature is the second evolution of the grass-type dragon from Holozing, and for this piece, I chose to portray it in a vibrant, anime chibi style. I absolutely adore the playful and energetic vibe of Verdarox—it has this sunny spirit that made me smile all throughout the creative process. Its expressive eyes, happy pose, and natural elements made it a delightful challenge to draw. I felt a lot of joy while illustrating it, almost like I was channeling the character's own cheerful energy into my art.

Esta adorable criaturita es la segunda evolución del dragón de hierba en Holozing, y para esta ilustración decidí representarlo en un estilo anime chibi muy colorido. Me encanta la energía juguetona y vibrante de Verdarox—tiene un espíritu tan alegre que me hizo sonreír durante todo el proceso de creación. Sus ojos expresivos, su pose animada y los elementos naturales que lo rodean fueron un desafío muy entretenido de ilustrar. Sentí una gran alegría al dibujarlo, como si estuviera canalizando su energía positiva directamente en mi arte.
Verdarox in this version bursts with personality and charm. Its body is primarily a bright yellow, giving off the feeling of sunlight and warmth, while the chest and inner tail are shaded in a soft, minty green that brings a sense of calm and nature. The most striking features are its flaming pink horns and tail, designed like twisting leaves of fire—blending elements of plant life and magical flame.
Its eyes are large, round, and filled with life, shaded with deep amber and golden tones. The little fangs peeking from its open smile hint at its dragon heritage, but the overall look is sweet and playful. Its claws are small but defined, painted with a reddish-brown tone that matches its energy. The setting includes vibrant grass beneath its feet, fluffy pink clouds in the background, and a glowing sun above—this sunny scene enhances its cheerful personality.
Verdarox en esta versión está lleno de personalidad y encanto. Su cuerpo es principalmente de un amarillo brillante que transmite calidez y alegría, mientras que el pecho y el interior de la cola están sombreados con un verde menta suave que evoca tranquilidad y conexión con la naturaleza. Sus rasgos más llamativos son los cuernos y la cola en forma de llamas rosas, diseñados como hojas retorcidas de fuego—una mezcla de vegetación mágica y energía ardiente.
Sus ojos son grandes, redondos y llenos de vida, con tonos ámbar y dorados que le aportan profundidad. Sus pequeños colmillos asomando por la sonrisa abierta revelan su herencia dragón, pero su aspecto general es tierno y juguetón. Las garras, pequeñas pero bien definidas, están coloreadas en un tono marrón rojizo que combina con su energía traviesa. El entorno incluye un pasto vibrante bajo sus pies, nubes rosadas y esponjosas de fondo, y un sol resplandeciente en lo alto—una escena luminosa que complementa perfectamente su personalidad alegre.
Process / Proceso
The illustration began with a light, dynamic sketch to capture Verdarox's playful pose. I wanted the character to feel like it was caught mid-dance or about to bounce happily across the grass. Using smooth, curved lines, I established the flow of the body, the curling tail, and the sprouting flame-like horns.
Once the sketch felt just right, I moved on to the linework. This is where the character truly starts to take form. I focused on keeping the lines clean and expressive, adding a sense of bounce to the limbs and defining the flame horns with sharp yet whimsical shapes. The line art is one of my favorite parts—it’s where I see the character really come to life.
Next came the coloring stage. I carefully chose a palette that balanced nature and energy—sunny yellows, grassy greens, and vivid pinks. I kept the colors bold and flat at first to establish contrast and mood, and this gave me a great base for the shading.
Adding shadows gave depth and volume to Verdarox. I placed soft shading around the curves of the belly, under the chin, and beneath the limbs. The pink flames received special treatment with gradient shadows that enhance their magical look.
Highlights were next, and they truly made the piece pop. I added bright accents along the eyes, horns, and the glossy belly. These touches gave Verdarox a shiny, polished finish that emphasized its lively nature.
Finally, the background was created to match the character's joyful essence. I painted thick, colorful grass blades, cotton candy-like clouds, and a glowing sun that lights up the entire scene. This setting not only frames Verdarox, but also mirrors its cheerful, vibrant spirit.
La ilustración comenzó con un boceto ligero y dinámico para capturar la pose juguetona de Verdarox. Quise que el personaje se sintiera como si estuviera a punto de dar un salto alegre o atrapado en medio de un baile. Usé líneas suaves y curvas para definir el flujo del cuerpo, la cola en espiral y los cuernos como llamas que brotan de su cabeza.
Cuando sentí que el boceto transmitía la energía que buscaba, pasé al delineado. Aquí es donde el personaje realmente comienza a tomar forma. Me concentré en mantener las líneas limpias y expresivas, dando rebote a las extremidades y definiendo los cuernos con formas afiladas pero juguetonas. El delineado es una de mis partes favoritas del proceso—es cuando empiezo a ver al personaje cobrar vida.
Después vino la etapa de color. Elegí cuidadosamente una paleta que equilibrara la naturaleza y la energía—amarillos soleados, verdes herbales y rosas intensos. Al principio mantuve los colores planos y brillantes para establecer contraste y ambiente, lo que me dio una excelente base para aplicar las sombras.
Las sombras aportaron profundidad y volumen al cuerpo de Verdarox. Añadí sombreado suave en el vientre, debajo del mentón y bajo las extremidades. Las llamas rosadas recibieron un tratamiento especial con sombras en degradado que realzan su apariencia mágica.
Después llegaron los brillos, y aquí es donde la pieza realmente cobró vida. Agregué reflejos brillantes en los ojos, los cuernos y el vientre para darle ese acabado pulido y chispeante que hace que Verdarox se sienta lleno de energía.
Finalmente, creé el fondo para reflejar su esencia alegre. Pinté hojas de pasto gruesas y coloridas, nubes como algodón de azúcar y un sol radiante que ilumina toda la escena. Este entorno no solo enmarca a Verdarox, sino que también refuerza su espíritu vibrante y encantador.
Creating this artwork was such a refreshing and joyful experience. I genuinely enjoyed every step, from sketching to coloring, and it felt wonderful to bring such a cheerful character to life in my own style. Verdarox radiates positivity, and I hope that energy shines through the illustration and reaches everyone who sees it.
