Coins and rounds can look very similar because of their metallic nature and their circular shape. However, the similarities end there.

A coin is always minted by a sovereign government. Their purpose is to circulate in society as currency. The face value of the coin, can differ from the actual metallic value of it. It is illegal to counterfeit a coin because the face value is legally protected by the government.

A round is minted by a private entity. they do not have a face value. Its value is entirely related to the amount of precious metal it contains. Whenever a round is bought, its premium is significantly lower than that of a coin.
