Hello, Dear hivers!
Today I bring you another chapter of my mini SketchBook. This time I felt like doing some common human face, one of those I don't usually do, but I admit that lately I've been with a little big interest in doing things I don't normally do. I've always loved afros, as a child I even had an afro, in fact, so today my choice was to draw a dark-skinned girl with a beautiful afro.

Hoy nuevamente les traigo otro capítulo de mi mini SketchBook. Esta vez tenía ganas de hacer algún rostro humano común, de esos que no suelo hacer, pero admito que últimamente he estado con un pequeño gran interés en hacer cosas que normalmente no hago. Siempre me han encantado los afros, de niña llegué a tener afro, de hecho, así que hoy mi elección fue dibujar una chica de piel oscura con un hermoso afro.

I started to look for references of girls with beautiful afros... Obviously, i don't usually copy exactly anything i look for or see as for some anxious reason i find it hard to spend too much time looking at anything, so i just look for some guidance and then do whatever i feel like, honestly. I found a photo on pinterest that i found very appealing, her afro very striking. I started tracing the base for my night drawing, i liked the result of the sketch so far.

Obviamente, no suelo copiar con exactitud nada de lo que busco o veo pues por alguna ansiosa razón me cuesta pasar demasiado tiempo viendo algo, así que sólo busco cierta guía y luego hago lo que me da la gana, sinceramente. Encontré una foto en pinterest que me resultó muy atractiva, su afro muy llamativo. Comencé a trazar la base para mi dibujo nocturno, me gustó el resultado del boceto hasta ahora.

In this first phase of my drawing, i was excited. I took my set of alcohol markers, for the base i chose orange tones. At least at this point nothing could go wrong. In these mini drawings, the first steps have been a very relaxing process, something that didn't happen to me before.
En esta primera fase de mi dibujo, estaba emocionada. Tomé mi set de marcadores de alcohol, para la base elegí tonos naranjas. Al menos en este punto nada podría salir mal. En estos mini dibujos, los primeros pasos han sido un proceso bien relajante, cosa que no me pasaba antes.

Usually, when i drew i always leave the background and the repetitive details for the end, since it's very relaxing for me and normally the beginning of my drawings used to be not very nice sometimes. But this time, i felt to do the opposite, i had more clear how i wanted the background to be before the main figure. For this part i used some ink pens, the same ones i use for outlining.
Usualmente, cuando dibujaba siempre suelo dejar el fondo y los detalles repetitivos para el final, puesto que es muy relajante para mí y normalmente el inicio de mis dibujos no solía ser muy agradable a veces. Pero esta vez, sentí hacer lo contrario, tenía mas claro cómo quería que fuese el fondo antes que la figura principal. Para esta parte utilicé unos boligrafos artisticos, los mismos que uso para delinear.

At this point i was getting a little too worried, coloring dark skin is not that easy and i was also thinking about how i would achieve the texture of the hair. But for now i would start with the skin. The hair i left for the grand finale. I had a bit of a problem with selecting the right colors, as these cheap markers usually have completely different shades than what is shown on the outside. Obviously you always have to test on other paper to see how certain mixtures turn out.
En este punto ya me estaba preocupando un poco mucho, colorear pieles oscuras no es tan fácil que digamos y también pensaba en cómo lograría la textura del cabello. Pero por ahora comenzaría por la piel. El cabello lo dejé para el gran final. Tuve un pequeño problema con la selección de los colores adecuados, pues estos marcadores baratos suelen tener unos tonos completamente diferentes a lo que se muestra por fuera. Obviamente siempre hay que hacer pruebas en otro papel para ver cómo resultan ciertas mezclas.

I selected a few shades that were a bit strange but when i mixed them i got a decent result. To blur a little each color i used orange. I left the markers with brown tones for the afro as they seemed too dark for the skin or at least, i thought it would be a disaster.
Seleccioné unos cuantos tonos un tanto extraños pero que al mezclarlos obtuve un resultado decente. Para difuminar un poco cada color usaba el naranja. Dejé los marcadores con tonos marrones para el afro pues me parecian muy oscuros para la piel o al menos, pensé que sería un desastre.

The clothing and accessories part didn't worry me much, i chose a red marker and a yellow acrylic marker for smaller details. A green for the crystals and for final details i used yellow and turquoise pastel pencils. I tried to keep the whole drawing without too many contrasting colors.
La parte de la vestimenta y accesorios no me preocupaba mucho, elegí un marcador color rojo y un marcador acrílico amarillo para detalles más pequeños. Un verde para los cristales y para detalles finales usé lápices de color amarillo y turquesa pastel. Intenté mantener todo el dibujo sin demasiados colores contrastantes.
Afro Hair | Cabello Afro
For this part i took a deep breath and had to analyze a bit how i would make the afro look like a real afro and not just color a dark spot. So in the end i opted to make small irregular strokes with various shades of markers and go overlapping each layer with the same method, starting with the lighter layers and adding other darker strokes and leaving certain places for the lights that would be with orange tones. At the end i added other small details with black ink and turquoise pencil.
Para esta parte respiré profundo y tuve que analizar un poco en cómo haría para que el afro parezca una afro real y no solo colorear una mancha oscura. Así que al final opté por hacer pequeños trazos irregulares con varios tonos de marcadores e ir superponiendo cada capa con el mismo método, comenzando con las capas más claras e ir añadiendo otros trazos mas oscuros y dejando ciertos lugares para las luces que serían con tonos naranjas. Al final agregué otros pequeños detalles con tinta negra y con el lápiz de color turquesa.

And that's how my girl with afro turned out, so far this is my favorite drawing of my mini SketchBook, it wasn't as tedious a process as i thought it would be, in the end the part i enjoyed drawing the most was the hair and i thought it would be the most difficult part. I really liked the texture i achieved.
Y así fue como quedó mi chica con afro, hasta ahora este es mi dibujo favorito de mi mini SketchBook, no fue un proceso tan tedioso como pensé que sería, al final la parte que más disfruté dibujar fue el cabello y pensé que sería la parte más difícil. Me gustó mucho la textura que logré.
