There's a lot of people out there that label China Communist but let's be honest here, China is not a Communist nation it may operate in that style to some degree but it isn't. China is an Authoritarian government in that it dictates to its citizens on what they can and can't do.

Their growing social points system is indicative of their approach to control the lives by subtle changes. Mass surveillance of citizens is another indication of that, their facial recognition technology that is rolled out onto people is of military grade.

An alarming position to advance on your own people, where the current views and objectives of governments might be of good intentions it opens the door to abuse by future governments. As history tells us, nothing good can come from absolute power.

China's Gaming Ban

China recently expanded their Authoritarian approach to gaming for kids under 18. It is now outlawed for kids under 18 to play any video games between Monday to Thursday and only allows for one hour a day on Friday Saturday and Sunday. What's even more alarming is that recently when parents in Australia were asked if they approved many said they did. There was a mainstream media news story on it with one mother stating that she would welcome the approach here in Australia because she'd be able to say "it's not me it's the government" Source

I understand that parents might struggle with controlling their kids at times and gaming is addictive as an 80s baby I had the privilege of riding this revolution into mainstream. Unfortunately for me there wasn't as much cash attached to it but it was still fun.

Through my own lived experience and that of many others I know we often picked up the console to smash out a few rounds of counter strike then onto call of duty and modern warfare. I miss these late night rounds with friends laughing as we played. Command and Conquer was another fantastic game we used to play.

Did it lead to sleep deprivation and late nights, yup. But so did my licence and going for drives with friends, so did sporting tournaments and pretty much everything else.

Did I come home from school and straight to the console, yup. Did I skip out on studying, yup. Did it ruin my life? No. In fact I still passed uni, I've still gotten a decent job and I still game late at night. Infact it's what I did to stop me going insane when the only way to get a crying baby to sleep was to cradle them in my arms and sit in a chair.

It is the role of the parents not a government to make these rules and in place of video games what are parents giving their children? Tell their kids to turn off the game while the parent disengages and sits infront of Fox news for 6 hours or some other mainstream media site raking in billions of profits because their T.V is on? Or while the parents scroll through Facebook arguing with strangers?

Parent:Turn off the game kid Kid:But I'm bored can we do something? Parent:Hang on Jessica a person on the internet is wrong and I need to tell them I'm offended

Yeah, we've all been kids we know how it is. At least gaming builds skill sets in problem solving, coordination, engagement and a heap of other things that you won't get from sitting infront of the idiot box listening to someone's agenda and eating it with a spoon. Parents should turn off the T.V (just a thought)

I've recently reconnected my Play Station 3 to play Zombies on Call of Duty with lil miss, she finds it the funniest thing to date and we have alot of enjoying.

But you know what I also do with my kids, play with them, build things, enroll them in community sports and build their skill sets across multiple platforms.

In the source link provided above it States that China's Gaming industry is worth $US32 Billion which indicates alot of employment and economic activity is generated. All of which as stated in the article was immediately disrupted due to China's ban. All the ban will result in is mass job losses and another industry that will go off shore to another nation (America incoming more industry)

China's short sited move has a far greater impact on the broader community than they realise.

Despite this fortunately block chain technology is here with the ability to remain anonymous and access games through Decentralised gaming platforms. As China hasn't just banned gaming they have linked it to a Government run server which provides an announcement and ADS! So they will know if the rules are broken. (Cash grab with fines anyone?)

Decentralisation provides the opportunity to circumvent China's ban and no doubt this will be why in recent days the cryptoshphere of gaming is booming.

It also puts money into players hands and out of big companies. So it will be interesting to see if it can be reclassified as a job. What parent is going to complain their kid is playing video games all day everyday when their 12 year old is funding their lifestyle? It's interesting isn't it. When cash is involved people don't have anything to say.

Let's take a moment and reflect on why FREEDOM is so important.
