As I always say, my bike takes me to places I would have never imagined I would go in my life. With the current cold weather in Argentina, we still take courage and go out to ride for a while, sometimes taking advantage of the sun. And in one of these many outings I came across something that really made me reflect, change and think. An apiary, half collapsed and with some old hives and that air of abandonment that speaks to you without saying a single word.
! [Spanish] Como siempre digo, mi bicicleta me lleva por lugares que en mi vida hubiese imaginado llegar. Con el frío actual de la Argentina igualmente nos armamos de corajes y salimos a rodar un rato aprovechando en ocasiones la presencia del sol. Y en una de estas tantas salidas me topé con algo que realmente me hizo reflexionar, bajar un cambio y pensar. Un apiario, medio venido abajo y con algunas colmenas viejas y ese aire de abandono que te habla sin decir ni una sola palabra.
As always accompanied by my friend Alejandro, who lately has become a wheel companion, we got off the bike and of course as any content creator ready to shoot pictures with my cell phone. There were the bee boxes, half twisted, some were open, others already taken by weeds and time. And I stayed a while looking, thinking about those bees, what they mean and all that we do not see, but that affects our daily lives.

[Spanish] Como siempre acompañado con mi amigo Alejandro, que últimamente se ha vuelto un compañero de rueda, nos bajamos de la bicicleta y por supuesto como todo creador de contenido dispuesto a disparar capturas con mi celular. Ahí estaban las cajas de las abejas, medias torcidas, algunas estaban abiertas, otras ya tomadas por los yuyos y el tiempo. Y me quedé un rato mirando, pensando en esas abejas, en lo que significan y en todo lo que no vemos, pero que afecta a nuestra vida diaria.
Nowadays there is a lot of talk about the pollinator crisis and you may have heard it said that bees are disappearing. Nowadays we are so interconnected, one does not know what is true and what is real. Honestly, I don't know if these animals of vital importance to our world are becoming extinct, but I do know that this is not a movie, it is reality. And I say reality because I am seeing it with my eyes, otherwise it would be someone else's version. Currently, the fields are full of pesticides, and a lot of things they put on plants to supposedly be more efficient in their cultivation and among all that the famous climate change. And among so many changes that are supposed to improve our lives, I believe that bees, which fulfill a vital function for us, are suffering from it. I am aware that when they leave, they will not only take some honey with them, but they will take much more with them.
! [Spanish] Hoy en día se habla mucho de la crisis de los polinizadores y capaz lo escuchaste por ahí, que dicen que las abejas están desapareciendo. En la actualidad estamos tan intercomunicados, uno no sabe lo que es verdad y lo que es real. Sinceramente, no sé si se están extinguiendo estos animalitos de vital importancia para nuestro mundo, lo que sí sé de qué esto no es una película, es la realidad. Y digo realidad porque le estoy viendo con mis ojos, de lo contrario sería la versión de otro. Actualmente, los campos están llenos de pesticidas, y un montón de cosas que le ponen a las plantas para supuestamente sean más eficientes en su cultivo y entre todo eso el famoso cambio climático. Y entre tantos cambios que supuestamente son para mejorar nuestra vida, creo que las abejas, que cumplen una función vital para nosotros, lo están padeciendo. Soy consciente de que cuando ella se vayan, no se llevarán solo un poco de miel, sino que se llevarán puesto a mucho más.
Today, while taking my son to school, I asked him what he thought about bees and what their function is for us. And with his only 11 years old he says to me, daddy the bees make everything work. And I really think it's a little bit like that. I feel like without them everything shuts down, the colors go away and the food starts to get scarce. Something so important to our survival on this plane.
! [Spanish] Hoy, mientras llevabas a mi hijo al colegio, le pregunté qué pensaba de las abejas y cuál es su función para nosotros. Y con su tan solo 11 años me dice, papá las abejas hacen que todo funcione. Y realmente creo que es un poco así. Siento que sin ellas todo se apaga, los colores se van y la comida empieza a escasear. Algo tan importante para nuestra supervivencia en este plano.
I feel that the bees are silent, but when they speak, that silence will resound in the conscience of every human being. It could be that the place I saw has remained like that for a thousand reasons, maybe the owner moved, retired, or simply could not continue. But it can also be the reflection of something that happens in many corners of the world and that is not seen in the mass media.
! [Spanish] Siento que las abejas están en silencio, pero cuando hablen, ese silencio retumbará en la conciencia de cada ser humano. Puede ser que ese lugar que vi haya quedado así por mil motivos, capaz el dueño se mudó, se jubiló, o simplemente no pudo seguir. Pero también puede ser el reflejo de algo que pasa en muchos rincones del mundo y que en los medios masivos de comunicación no se ven.
That is why I thought it was important to share these images I took and to leave this reflection for us to think about and to see or take contemplative walks because our planet and above all our nature is always talking to us. Maybe some of you will also come across a place like this and instead of passing by, you will think about what role we play in this.

[Spanish] Es por eso que me pareció importante compartir estas imágenes que saqué y dejar esta reflexión para que recapacitemos y veamos o hagamos caminatas contemplativas porque nuestro planeta y sobre todo nuestra naturaleza siempre nos está hablando. Capaz alguno de ustedes también se cruza con un lugar así y en vez de pasar de largo se pone a pensar qué rol jugamos en esto.
I can only say that we must live in conscience and we must take care of what we have. We have to support local beekeepers and let's not underestimate those little beings that with their buzzing sustain life on this plane. I will only say that without the bees the world tends to become silent.
! [Spanish] Solo puedo decir que debemos vivir en conciencia y debemos cuidar lo que tenemos. Tenemos que apoyar a los apicultores locales y no subestimemos a esos pequeños seres que con sus zumbidos sostienen la vida en este plano. Solo diré que sin las abejas el mundo tiende a quedarse en silencio.
