Hello and welcome back to my blog!
I am still exploring the Altus Plateau. Last time, I defeated the Godskin Apostle in the Windmill Village. It turned out to be a tough fight for me. You can read about it in this post.
I liked this village; those villagers were possessed and didn't attack unless you attacked someone. To the west of this village was a big forested area, and this was an unexplored area as well.
There are some villagers on the way. Not an issue for me. I found a golden tree and got its golden seeds. Altus Plateau is such a good place to farm these seeds and increase the number of flasks we have.
Anyway, this place was very eerie. I saw a new kind of enemy here. They are hard to explain, but they look like they have a big cloak and in place of a mouth, some tentacles. They spit out poisonous black-flame like things. This was a new kind of status effect as well.
They had good range but poor sight and other senses. I killed a few just to see what they drop. You can also use a bow and arrow, killing them safely from a distance.
I found a glowing lamp in the middle of the woods that looked out of place. I had to check what's going on... when I reached there, a ghastly figure started walking, leaving footprints on the ground.
I tracked those footprints to see where they led me. I thought it would take me to a hidden location. This took about 5 minutes or so only and he went inside the tunnel.
Ah, now I get it. These enemies are usually found in the tunnels mining the magical crystals. How did I not see that coming?
This one is called the Altus Tunnel. It had some new enemies, too. I have been to another similar tunnel, can't remember its name now, but that had a giant bull-like boss at the end, and I couldn't finish it.
I was hoping this to not have a tough boss, if there is one. There were some chests with not-so-good loot. The crystallised snails were pretty unique here. Cute but lethal... good thing they were pretty slow.
I saw a giant spider/fly hybrid thing in one of the rooms. It was throwing something at me. And looked so weird. I couldn't even find a way to reach it. It had no boss bar or boss music, so it didn't seem like a boss. Besides, I found no way to reach it, and it seemed stuck in there. Such a weird thing to come across in these caves.
I couldn't even take a proper picture of it, as it was shooting something which would one-hit kill me.
After clearing all other smaller enemies in different rooms. I reached the place with the huge wooden gate. The same kind of gate that I saw in the other tunnel with the boss inside. I knew this was going to be a boss fight.
Fighting one boss at a time is fine, but the game was like, how about two at the same time? lol
These two 'Crystalian' were slow but dealt decent damage. One had a ringblade capable of doing ranged damage, so this was my primary target. I tried to take down that one first while dodging the spear attacks from the other one.
If they were going to be a duo, I would bring out my Knight friend, too. I was using my knight as a shield and let them get aggro on him so I could have some heavy hits from my curved sword.
They were taking very little damage at the start, but at some point, when you hit them hard enough, their crystal form breaks or something, and they start taking more damage. Once I figured that out, I just spammed them with heavy attacks from my sword, even dealing two-handed damage just to be quick while my Knight is still alive.
It didn't take long for both of them to kill my Knight. And that's the most terrifying situation. They were able to kill me a couple of times before I successfully took down the Ringblade, and then it was just a game of patience.
Maintaining proper distance against the spear attacks and using shields to block all the attacks was working well against it. It took 10x times more to kill the second one than I take the time to kill the first one. Had to make sure I safely dodged the triple spear attack that was capable of killing me. You can never be too cautious.
They gave me an item called Somberstone Miner's Bell Bearing, which I can give to the Twin Maiden at the Roundtable Hold to get some smithing stones and cracked crystals.
Seeing this 'Enemy Felled' message gives me so much satisfaction haha.
Runes I collected after defeating this boss and clearing this tunnel were used to upgrade another level. Now my character is on level 61. I must have spent like half a million runes already on just upgrades lol.
This feels like a massive grind. I knew what I was signing up for. I wanted to play the game just because it is going to be a challenge.
I went out and reached Woodfolk ruins. Remember those ugly monsters throwing black, rotted stuff at you. One of them killed me with its status effect. And I got to know what this status effect is called. Death Blighted.
Once my meter for the status effect filled, I died instantly. I don't even think it mattered how much HP I got, it just killed me. Looks like one of the most punishing status effects to get.
I am not going to mess with them again and just snipe them from a distance with my bow and arrows.
They were guarding a chest that had an incantation named Wrath of God. Sounds very impressive, but my build does not support these. I just went with physical damage, no magic or incantation-focused build. Did I make a mistake, probably... Do I care much? Nope!
Until next time...
