SCALE AI

Let’s start with the biggest news. Not long ago, Meta announced its acquisition of 49% of Scale AI, investing the astronomical amount of $14.3 billion. Scale is now valued at over $29 billion, and its founder, Alexandr Wang, is not only joining Meta , but is also taking the lead of the new “superintelligence” team, which aims for nothing less than the development of Artificial General Intelligence—AGI—the next phase of technological evolution, artificial intelligence that thinks like a human being.

Despite the large stake, Scale retains its autonomy, with Jason Droege—a seasoned Silicon Valley veteran, formerly of Uber Eats and Axon—stepping in as interim CEO. And all this without Wang completely leaving Scale, as he remains on its Board of Directors to ensure continuity in vision.

But let’s take a look at what happened before this. Before closing the deal with Scale, Meta had been in advanced talks with Perplexity AI. The goal was an acquisition that would give Meta a strong position in the AI-powered search engine space. Ultimately, the deal didn’t go through—not due to lack of interest, but because common ground couldn’t be found. Still, Meta’s clear intent to acquire such expertise shows just how seriously it takes this game. These aren’t just investments—these are battle positions in a new technological war.

NEW ADDITIONS

And just when you think it’s over… there’s another big move. Zuck recruits Daniel Gross, the CEO of Safe Superintelligence, a startup founded by Ilya Sutskever, former Chief Scientist of OpenAI. The deal also includes Nat Friedman, former CEO of GitHub and close associate of Gross. The two also run the investment firm NFDG, in which Meta is now acquiring a stake. These people aren’t just bringing in expertise—they’re here to help design the future. And the fact that they are joining under Wang’s leadership shows how serious this effort truly is.

Rumors even suggest that Meta is offering signing bonuses of up to $100 million to attract top scientists from OpenAI and other giants—a true gold rush for AI talent.

OAKLEY META GLASSES

And just like that, we move on to hardware. Because Zuck doesn’t just want to have the smartest AI in the world—he wants users to carry it in their pocket… or better yet, on their face. Following the success of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Meta is now teaming up with Oakley to launch the new Oakley Meta HSTN.

These glasses come with an Ultra HD 3K camera, Meta AI features, up to 8 hours of battery life, and super-fast charging (50% in just 20 minutes). All this is packed into a sleek, sporty design. With a price tag of $399 for the basic model and $499 for the limited edition, they clearly target athletes, extreme sports enthusiasts, and those who live fast and loud.
