Welcome back to another episode of The People’s Guild.

With the Conclave Arcana presale just a few weeks out, we invited @azircon back to the show for a deep dive into the state of the market, expectations for the new set & the evolving utility of land and card ownership.

From Az’s presale strategy to thoughts on black foils, collector value, and the role Arcana might play in shaping the future of Splinterlands, this one covers a lot of ground. We also touch on Dave’s growing presence within the team and some ideas around simplifying the land crafting experience.

Enjoy the show!

Conclave Arcana Presale Impact Discussion

The group discusses the upcoming Conclave Arcana presale and its potential impact on the Splinterlands economy. Az expresses cautious optimism, noting that DEC is trading close to peg at around 900 Splintoshis, which he considers a good position for launching a new set. Bjangles mentions that the presale requires 4.4 billion DEC to sell out, while the current liquid DEC available is around 2.8 billion. Az demonstrates the recent increase in his staked SPS, which has grown from $90k to over $100k in the last three days. The group anticipates a significant amount of SPS will need to be burned for players to purchase packs, potentially driving up the SPS price.

Splinterlands Expansion and Card Pricing

The discussion focuses on the upcoming Splinterlands expansion, including card pricing, pack types, and promotional cards. Azircon plans to buy around 10,000 packs to max out three decks, potentially mixing standard, alchemy, and legendary packs. Bjangles and FatJimmy suggest that regular foil card prices may be more affordable due to players chasing black foils and arcane cards. The group also discusses the new promotional cards, which are neutral but have a death-themed appearance, and the potential impact of black foil cards on the game's economy.

Conclave Arcana Set and Team Developments

The discussion focuses on the upcoming Conclave Arcana set and Dave's impact as the new team member. Azircon expresses his desire to be surprised by the team's developments, particularly in terms of utility and integration between land and the main card game. Bjangles highlights the racial synergy in the new set as a significant addition. The group also discusses potential future developments, including new game modes, improved player experience, and further integration of land features. Azircon acknowledges Dave's positive impact on marketing and expresses optimism about his role, while maintaining high expectations for future innovations.

Incentivizing Land Ownership in the Game

Azircon discussed the need to incentivize land ownership in the game, suggesting that the value of land should increase as players accumulate more plots. He also expressed skepticism about the utility of the black foil card, suggesting that more creative uses for it were needed. Bjangles proposed that the game could be integrated with land ownership, such as by creating promo cards from processed resources. The team agreed to explore these ideas further. As mentioned in the episode, a helpful tool for tracking production and land data can be found at splinter-lands.streamlit.app, developed by @beaker007.

Streamlining Land Development Process

Azircon proposed a shortcut to the current land development process to expedite the creation of items and spells, which he believes is crucial for the game's progress. FatJimmy agreed, stating that the current process is unnecessarily complex and convoluted. They both expressed a desire to see tangible utility from research and to keep the momentum going to prevent a return to the game's previous state. Bjangles suggested driving engagement for new players through land ownership, and FatJimmy proposed making plots more accessible and fun for players without access to high-value cards.

Grain Production and Resource Transfer

Azircon and FatJimmy discussed their self-sufficiency in grain production, with FatJimmy's plots producing a significant amount of grain. Azircon suggested FatJimmy could easily cover his 1,200 grain deficit, and they discussed the most efficient ways to transfer resources between regions. They also praised Beaker's tool, which Azircon uses to monitor their progress, and FatJimmy expressed his appreciation for Beaker's work.

Splinterlands: Engaging Players With Unique Items

Azircon and Bjangles discuss the need for new items or spells in Splinterlands to engage players and increase the value of land resources. They propose redirecting developer Cryptomancer's efforts towards creating unique, desirable items that can only be obtained through land resources. The group brainstorms ideas, including potions that allow players to use staked cards in battles temporarily. Azircon emphasizes the importance of simple, outside-the-box thinking that can be implemented with limited resources. Bjangles suggests organizing a community challenge to gather more ideas, focusing on concepts beyond battles.

Free Land Offer for Bjangles

Azircon proposed giving away free land to Bjangles, who currently has 7 plots, to encourage development. Azircon would not charge for the land but would require Bjangles to work it. FatJimmy suggested this could generate passive income through tax revenue. Bjangles agreed to consider the offer. They also discussed the upcoming Conclave Arcana sale and its potential impact on development costs. FatJimmy raised questions about the role of different developers in crafting items and the involvement of Cryptomancer. Bjangles suggested the outcome would depend on the success of the Conclave Arcana sale.

PP Production and Land Management

Azircon discussed the current PP (production points) on each resource, noting that grain has the highest amount, followed by iron, wood, stone, and SPS. Azircon also highlighted that since the launch of land, people have stopped a lot of research and SPS, leading to a drop in their production. However, there's a gradual increase in SPS production as the reward for SPS on land is getting higher. Azircon also suggested that people could clear land by renting gold foil legendary cards, which are cheaper than time crystals. The team also discussed the idea of creating video streams on land management, with Azircon offering to take up the challenge.

Desirable Product for Land Development

Azircon, FatJimmy, and Bjangles discussed the need for a functional and desirable product to drive people to use land in the game. They agreed that the product should be rare and desirable, and that there should be a mechanism for leasing land. They also discussed the idea of adding utility to black foils, which would make them more desirable and justify the pursuit of development. Azircon emphasized the importance of not inflating the value of the cards and the need for people to want the cards. The conversation ended with a discussion about predictions for the Conclave arcana.

Conclave Arcana Presale Optimism

Azircon expresses confidence in the success of the upcoming presale for Conclave Arcana, citing the existing player base and proven mechanics like wagons and bonding. He expects it to be at least as successful as Rebellion. Bjangles adds that new features like Bloodline Dominion may attract dormant wild players. FatJimmy highlights the potential impact of the new collector aspect. Azircon reveals he plans to purchase 10,000 packs worth $40,000 using fiat currency, demonstrating his optimism about the set.
