I am a passionate sports fan and I confess that I have a special love for the art of Karate, although I have never practiced it. This year has been very special since in February, the series Cobra Kai ended. My whole family watched this series together, and now that I think about it, it's one of the few that has managed to bring us all together to enjoy it, despite our different tastes. This series touched my heart with that ending we wanted for Johnny Lawrence and the meaning of the sport throughout it.
Now, just a few months later, all the excitement is renewed with the theatrical release of Karate Kid Legends, a film that expands that universe, from the same franchise. Today I want to tell you my opinion in this post.

Este año ha sido muy especial ya que en el mes de febrero, terminó la serie Cobra Kai, esta serie la vimos juntos toda mi familia, y ahora que lo pienso es una de las pocas que ha logrado reunirnos a todos para disfrutarla, a pesar que tenemos gustos diferentes. Esta serie tocó mi corazón con ese final que queríamos para Jhonny Lawrence y el significado del deporte a lo largo de ella.
Ahora, apenas unos meses después, se renueva toda la emoción con el estreno en cines de Karate Kid Legends, una película que expande ese universo, de la misma franquicia y hoy quiero contarles mi opinión en esta publicación.
Karate Kid Legends presents the story of a boy named Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, who practices Kung-fu in Beijing with Mr. Han, played again by Jackie Chan, he reprises this role that we met in the film The Karate Kid (2010). Li must suddenly move to New York with his mother for work reasons. This story of a single mother with her son in a new city for them is a start to a story just like that of The Karate Kid (2010) with Jaden Smith and the original film The Karate Kid (1984) with a young Daniel LaRusso.
At this point, I must confess that I thought it would be the same drama with the same problems of a teenager and bullying, but KARATE KID LEGENDS gives us much more, because this story has other subplots that are not as elaborate,but they did add to the film and made it a little more interesting.

Of course Li is our teenage protagonist who finds himself involved in a bullying situation, which is agreed to be resolved in a Karate competition. Unlike the other protagonists of the other films in the franchise, Li does know a lot about Kung-fu, but he must adapt his training to the discipline of Karate, for this he will have Mr. Han, a Kung-fu specialist and also the support of Sensei Daniel LaRusso, who will teach him Miyagi Karate.

What I can highlight the most about the film, or what I liked the most, were the very well choreographed fights, with kick combinations that although they seem exaggerated, I have seen in Karate athletes, where they perform several impressive turns and very high kicks even. So, the fights were quite good, maybe they exaggerate the number of kicks or blows they resist and then continue fighting, I think that is a quite striking creative freedom.

[Spanish version] Lo que más puedo destacar de la película, o lo que más me gustó, fueron las peleas muy bien coreografiadas, con combinaciones de patadas que aunque parezcan exageradas, las he visto en atletas de Karate, donde realizan varios giros impresionantes y patadas muy altas incluso. Así que, las peleas fueron bastantes buenas, tal vez exageran en la cantidad de patadas o golpes que resisten para luego continuar peleando, eso creo que es una libertad creativa bastante llamativa.
Definitely seeing Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio together on screen is something that goes straight to our hearts. I can say that I grew up watching Jackie Chan movies, and of Ralph, I've seen everything related to Karate Kid and Cobra Kai, because in my family, my mom always made us watch and love the entire franchise; so seeing them together was a formula that wouldn't fail, because the fans would eagerly receive it.
I don't know how long they'll continue using these formulas to make us watch and consume everything they release. Releasing this movie the same year Cobra Kai ended, although I appreciate it, I think they should give the franchise a rest. That's my opinion, but I'll still go see the next one, I'm sure of it.

[Spanish version] Definitivamente ver a Jackie Chan y Ralph Macchio junto en la pantalla es algo que va directo a nuestro corazón, puedo decir que he crecido viendo las películas de Jackie Chan, y de Ralph pues he visto todo lo relacionado con Karate Kid y Cobra Kai, porque en mi familia, mi mamá siempre nos hizo ver y amar toda la franquicia; así que verlos juntos era una fórmula que no fallaría, porque los fanáticos lo recibiríamos con ansias.
No se hasta donde seguirán usando estas fórmulas para hacernos ver y consumir todo lo que saquen. Sacar esta película el mismo año que terminó Cobra Kai, aunque lo agradezco, creo que ya deberían dejar descansar la franquicia. Es mi opinión, pero igual iré a ver lo siguiente, estoy segura de eso.
The subplots were about Li's romantic character, his father, a former boxer who wants to fight again, his mother and the loss of her eldest son, and something was revealed about the training of the opponent and abuser who hits Li; all of these subplots were raised, but they were not developed enough. I understand that it is a movie and it is difficult to give an arc to all the characters, but this movie lasted 94 minutes and I think it could have completed the 2 hours to be able to develop them.

[Spanish version] Las sub tramas fueron del personaje romántico de Li, su padre un ex boxeador que quiere volver a pelear, su madre y la pérdida de su hijo mayor, algo dejaron ver sobre el entrenamiento del contrincante y abusador que golpea a Li; todas estas sub tramas fueron planteadas, pero no fueron desarrolladas lo suficiente, entiendo que se trata de una película y es difícil darle un arco a todos los personajes, pero esta película duró 94 minutos y creo que pudo haber completado las 2 horas para poder desarrollarlas.
I just hope that in the next movie or series in this franchise, if they plan to come out, they can present us with a main plot that isn't repetitive and that they can give us the interest of an unexpected ending, because this movie was really quite predictable.

Solo deseo que en la o las siguientes películas o series de esta franquicia, si es que tienen pensado salir, puedan presentarnos una trama principal que no sea repetitiva y que puedan brindarnos el interés de un desenlace inesperado, porque de verdad que ésta película fue bastante predecible.
