A lot happened over the past weekend, and while I still recover from my travel stress, the stress of rushing through work before I travelled and catching up with school work, I have to get down to some details of the happenings in my country.

Twitter got shut down in Nigeria on Friday last week. At first, I thought it was a typical joke but apparently, it wasn't. The government really did have the balls to do it.

Their reason behind it was petty as usual. They claimed twitter deleted a statement made by the Nigerian President and as such the social media platform has insulted the entire country. You thought Donald Trump was petty? You have no idea how petty can be petty.

The truth about this entire fiasco is the fact that the Twitter ban has absolutely nothing to do with an insult on the president but has everything to do with the forthcoming elections in 2023 and the government's need to shut the voice of the Nigerian people from the hearing of the rest of the world. What better place to do this than through Twitter?

As of yesterday,Premium Times recorded that more than N2 billion had been lost over the period of this Twitter ban. N2 Billion is equivalent to $4 million.

Twitter, like other social media platforms, is more than just a platform for airing views and free speech, but also a place for businesses to thrive and transactions to take place.

The government ban has made the lives of these individuals difficult. The introduction of the Crowe app, a Twitter replacement created by the Federal Government is a joke. The app bans people in the blink of an eye. I recently read a story of a lady who called herself "Twitter lady" on the app and got banned.

It is a joke and an obvious infringement on human rights. It is an insult to the people's intelligence and the reviews are just funny.

There is a planned protest for the 12th of June that I suggest people participate in at their own risk. All I think about is the fact that people are going to die in mass. The government does not care. They will not go back on their decision. They will kill people and the world will do nothing about it.

The government has had their eyes on Twitter and Bitcoin activities since the #endsars protests of last year and as a form of vendetta they had plans to cut down the relationship people in Nigeria have with people around the world.

Nigerians have a loud voice, you see, it doesn't take much for things concerning us to be heard everywhere. We know we're in a terrible situation and when the time comes to fight for our rights, we do it, and the government makes it obvious that they don't give a damn about our opinion.

I was made to understand that recently the creation of fresh International Passports has been placed on hold due to the need to slow down youth immigration to other countries.

What comes to mind is the image of sheep in an enclosed area waiting for slaughter. That's exactly how I feel. Like a sheep waiting to be slaughtered.

There was also another news of Nigeria wanting to change its name to the United Africa Republic. I gathered that it had been brought to second reading but the President's aides have rejected having a hand in this development.

The China Debt

As always, Nigerian's took it up as a joke claiming that the country owes so much money to China that they now want to have a name change believing it will render the debt irrelevant. It's a terrible situation.

Nigeria, as of December 2020, owed China a debt of $4.1 billion and other external bodies up to $17.9 billion. An entire country of debt with no clue on how the payment will be made or any proof of work done with the money because the majority is syphoned into the personal accounts of these political vagabonds.

This morning, my sister and I talked about how many wars are brewing in the country. The internal war threatening to kill everyone in the South and East, and the external war that might be when China gets fed up and decides to actively pursue the natural resources in Nigeria.

The incredible thing is, the Chinese are so populated that they barely even need Nigerians to execute a natural resource excavation from this land or just turn the entire country into their production centre. We're practically fucked.

I don't know what next to expect really and I am terrified of the possibilities and probabilities.

The same battle that was fought last year during the #endsars protests which led to the genocide of October 20th will most probably occur again. The government now gives law enforcement officers the right to check people's phones for any sign of their ability to access Twitter.

The spread of VPNs is not private. I haven't installed it yet. I think I'm scared, I don't know. Maybe I'll just take a break from social media for a while and live without it. I already live a private life, I might as well avoid everything, but will it make the situation better?

I only hope these censorships don't eventually distort the entire internet in the next couple of months because that's what I see happening. It terrifies me. I know there will always be a way around it but I hate 'going around' things, I just want to live.

This has been longer than I anticipated, to end this I'll be sharing some pictures from @belemo's wedding over the weekend. It was a Hive wedding, and I sure as hell represented as the Busy Body assistant groom.
